With the Paris Olympics, a sacred embodiment of the sporting spirit, Maria Grazia Chiuri wanted to pay a fitting homage to all the athletes, from ancient times to the present, who have overcome prejudices and obstacles to ensure a level playing field in sport. So she returned to the essence and sartorial foundation she espouses: the supple, absolute peplum.

The Fall/Winter 2024-2025 Haute Couture collection was born out of a backdrop of hard-won political freedom over women's bodies. In fact, Maria Grazia Chiuri decided to embrace jersey, a material previously unseen in the world of couture. Presented in the collection as a metal mesh in gold, silver and white, it gently follows the contours of the body, enveloping it with an ultra-lightweight inner bustier that adds structure to the look.

Pleats, which make a return to many pieces in the collection, are sewn in place yet flare out with movement. The runway was filled with draped details evocative of classical statues: silk dresses sublimated with embroidery, moiré jacquard skirts that seemed to transform over time, ensembles in which draped skirts revealed pants with each step, and a one-shouldered goddess dress revealing a transparent metallic tank top trimmed in satin. Following a couture touch, sports jerseys were also decorated with gold leaf and micro-sequins. In a show sublimated by red, which Christian Dior called "the color of life," bathrobes were decorated with mosaic mirrors, eliminating functionality.

For Maria Grazia Chiuri, this collection offered a unique opportunity to combine couture and sportswear with classicism, rebellious spirit, collective energy and, above all, the politics of the female body. The collection allowed her to assert the experimental and introspective power of haute couture style and her unique perspective in reimagining feminine charm and elegance, combining delicacy and strength. It was a representation of a woman who thrives just as much as a man.
