Actor Mirai Moriyama was born on August 20, 1984, in Hyogo Prefecture. He began dancing at the age of five, learning jazz, classical ballet, and hip-hop. After appearing in several plays, he made his stage debut in 1999 in "Boys Time." He made his TV debut in 2001 in "TEAM 2," and rose to fame in 2003 for his role as the main character, Norio Tatematsu, in "Water Boys." He also starred in the 2004 film "Crying Out Love, In the Center of the World," playing the high school-aged protagonist, Sakutaro Matsumoto, for which he won the Blue Ribbon Newcomer Award, the Japan Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor, and the Newcomer Award. Furthermore, in March of this year, he won the Japan Academy Award for Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor for his roles in "Dustful Train" and "Canary of the North." In the 2011 film "Moteki," he performed a stunning rendition of Perfume's "Baby cruising LOVE" with the girls, fully demonstrating his dance talent.

In his private life, he married a non-celebrity woman in March 2010 and gave birth to his first child in October of the same year.

In addition to the film "Humanity Fund" being released in October, he has been appointed an overseas cultural envoy by the Agency for Cultural Affairs, and will spend a year in Belgium and Israel from October to September 2014, where he will be based and active in local theater and dance companies.
