Bvlgari Hotel Rome to open in 2022

Jul 3, 2020
Bvlgari Hotels & Resorts has announced that it will open a new Bvlgari hotel in Rome in 2022.

The Bvlgari Hotel Rome will be located in the Campo Marzio district, in the heart of Piazza Augusto Imperatore, close to the famous Spanish Steps at Via del Corso and Via del Babuino, and Via Condotti, home to the Bvlgari Rome flagship store.

The new Bvlgari Hotel Rome will occupy a stunning building owned by Edizione Properties, backed by CBRE Hotels. The building, designed by architect Vittorio Baglio Morpurgo between 1936 and 1938, is an Italian Rationalist structure. It stands opposite two of Rome's most iconic landmarks: the Ara Pacis Altar and the Mausoleum of Augustus (currently undergoing renovation). Its modern architecture, accentuated by traditional Roman building materials and colors, including ochre travertine marble and red-brown brick, will reinvent itself as a monumental modern structure. The building's rigorous Italian Rationalist architecture is complemented by frescoes by Antonio Varela, and opens onto an atrium on Via Frezza, offering multiple views of the Mausoleum. The south side features a 70-square-meter mosaic by Ferruccio Ferrazzi, a unique interpretation of the myth of Rome's founding.

As with Bvlgari hotels worldwide, Italian architectural firm Antonio Citterio Patricia Viel will be responsible for both the restoration of the building and the interior design of the new Bvlgari Hotel Rome. The hotel's more than 100 rooms, most of them suites, feature Michelin-starred chef Niko Romito's prestigious Il Ristorante restaurant and The Bvlgari Bar, both located on the top floor and offering unparalleled views of the Eternal City. Other amenities include a premium spa with an indoor pool and a state-of-the-art gym offering Bvlgari's signature workshop training methods.

Another unique feature of the Bvlgari Rome Hotel is the reading room, which features a collection of volumes tracing the history of precious jewelry. It is open to visitors by appointment.

The building's facade features a stunning bronze fountain, part of which is inscribed in Latin: "Where the spirit of Emperor Augustus resides." It represents Augustus' unique aesthetic sense and generous passion for architecture, his belief that architecture was an essential cultural element in shaping and defining historical epochs, and this belief became the starting point for this renovation.

The unique connection between the Bvlgari Hotel Rome and Emperor Augustus' vision is emphasized by the precision of the stone used in the Roman Empire and the balanced interior design, whose simple yet robust construction brings a rich texture that contrasts with the building's background.

To celebrate this historic endeavor and the continuation of its long-term commitment, Bvlgari has pledged to provide an environmentally friendly lighting system for the renovation of the Ara Pacis Altar and to support the restoring of Piazza Augusto Imperatore.

A masterful eclectic fusion of Roman heritage and the contemporary, timeless style of Bvlgari, the new Bvlgari Hotel Rome celebrates the exceptional and magnificent site from which the brand was born, welcoming guests in a unique and dazzling setting.

"We are extremely proud to open the Bvlgari Hotel Rome in such an exceptional location," said Jean-Christophe Babin, CEO of the Bvlgari Group. "For Bvlgari, opening our own temple in the heart of Rome, the birthplace of our brand and a place that remains at the heart of our brand, in 2022 is a remarkable achievement. We invite you to experience the most luxurious hospitality in Rome." "

"Together with all the stakeholders, both public and private, involved in this important project, we are proud to have planned and executed this major world-class real estate investment for Edizione Properties and its key base of operations in Rome," said Mauro Montagnere, CEO of Edizione Properties Spa.

The hotel's opening in Rome, Bulgari's hometown, will join six other prestigious properties in the Bulgari Hotels & Resorts collection, which will open in Paris, Moscow and Tokyo between 2020 and 2023, along with six already open in Milan, London, Bali, Beijing, Dubai and Shanghai.

Founded in 2001, Bulgari Hotels & Resorts is the only collection of Italian luxury hotels with a successful global presence, a group of hotels branded by luxury brands and property leaders in their respective markets.
