The "World of Shogo Kariyazaki: Commemorating 30 Years of Ikebana Career," showcasing the 30-year career of flower artist Shogo Kariyazaki, kicked off at the Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi Main Store on August 7th, accompanied by a demonstration and talk show.
This exhibition marks the 10th anniversary of Kariyazaki's solo exhibition at Mitsukoshi, and a special exhibit of kimonos designed and produced by Kariyazaki himself was also on display, along with flower vases. Furthermore, as the exhibition commemorates the 340th anniversary of Mitsukoshi's founding, a precious kabuki costume from the Mitsukoshi collection was also on display.
On this day, which is "8/7 (Hana)," Kariyazaki appeared in front of the central staircase on the first floor of the Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi Main Store, arranging flowers one after another in front of a large audience while continuing to talk nonstop. "It took me until 4 a.m. today to prepare for the exhibition, but I truly believe that this energy comes from constantly being aware of the energy of flowers," said 54-year-old Shogo Kariyazaki. During the demonstration, he introduced a pink rose named "Shogo Elegant," bred in Germany and named after himself. "This rose has twice as many petals as normal roses and lasts twice as long, making it a very economical flower," he said, enthusiastically engaging in a talk that was full of humor throughout. Shogo Kariyazaki, described by Akihiro Miwa as "a man with hands that weave beauty," is a leading Japanese flower artist who has received international acclaim, having recently held solo exhibitions at the Petit Palais in France and the Bois Floral de Paris in the Bois de Vincennes. His solo exhibition will run until August 19th in the gallery on the 7th floor of the new wing of the Mitsukoshi Main Store in Nihonbashi. During the exhibition period, free demonstrations and talk shows will be held periodically in the central hall on the 1st floor of the main building.
