"Palo Alto Story" marks the feature film directorial debut of Gia Coppola, niece of Sofia Coppola, who has worked on films and brand image films. A rare behind-the-scenes video, shot by Gia's mother, has recently arrived. The film stars a promising cast of up-and-coming actors, including Emma Roberts, niece of actress Julia Fiona Roberts, Jack Kilmer, former Yves Saint Laurent model and actor Val Kilmer's son, and Nathaniel Wolff, an actor who is also active as a musician. Based on a novel by actor James Franco, the story unfolds as a coming-of-age ensemble about a shy, sensitive girl named April and the teens around her. At the beginning of filming, Gia Coppola and her production team reportedly faced major challenges. Lead actress Emma Roberts was unable to attend the first day of shooting, and the possibility of filming being canceled on the very first day was raised. The newly arrived footage captures Gia's anxious and turbulent expressions as well as behind-the-scenes footage. However, at Roberts's insistence, the schedule was changed and filming continued. Since she and many other actors were in their teens and twenties, it appears they lived together during filming. The footage captures Jack Kilmer staying up late and Nat Wolff improvising piano, livening up the harmonious atmosphere on set.
The film "Palo Alto Story" will be shown in limited release from June 6th at the "Calite Fantastic! Cinema Collection 2015" (held May 16th - June 26th) at Shinjuku Cinema Qualite.
