"THE MOON" Museum Restaurant Opens in Roppongi Hills, Offering Views, Art, and Fine Cuisine

Jun 3, 2015

"THE MOON," a museum restaurant where you can enjoy art along with food, opened on June 1st on the 52nd floor of Roppongi Hills Mori Tower. The restaurant is decorated with contemporary art works by four artists - Shinoda Taro, Sugimoto Hiroshi, Hirose Satoshi, and Yang Hae-gyu - selected by Mori Art Museum curators with the theme of "light." The restaurant is located on the same floor as the observation deck, offering a fantastic view of Tokyo, including Tokyo Tower and Skytree.

The cuisine is creative French cuisine with a focus on gastronomy, with three courses available for both lunch and dinner. The ingredients are fresh and in season, and the presentation is also carefully crafted with a focus on the dishes and tableware that evokes the restaurant's name, "moon," to surprise and impress with both their taste and appearance. Also, as the restaurant receives many international guests, "Japanese" tastes have been incorporated throughout the ingredients, cooking methods, and presentation.

The restaurant has been lavishly designed with the Japanese concept of "ma" (distance) in mind, which is what Japanese people find relaxing, creating a relaxing atmosphere. While the interior is simple, the tables are by Cassina and the chairs are by Miyazaki Wood Industry, creating a perfect harmony between the inorganic atmosphere of the contemporary art and the warmth of the wood.

Right next to the restaurant is THE SUN, a cafe with a more casual atmosphere where you can drop in at any time. The cafe serves mainly Western food, as well as light meals such as sandwiches, so you can choose the place depending on your needs and the time of day. You can also use the cafe and restaurant alone, without having to visit the museum or observation deck, making it a great place to drop in casually.
