The 69th Tony Awards, the highest honor in the American theater world, was held on June 7th (local time) at Radio City Music Hall in New York, where Ken Watanabe's "The King and I" won Best Revival of a Musical and Best Actress in a Musical.
Ken Watanabe, who made his Broadway debut and was also nominated for Best Actor, unfortunately missed out on the award, but Kelli O'Hara, who won Best Actress, praised him as "my king" in her acceptance speech.
One of the things to look forward to on such a grand stage is the dresses worn by the attendees on the red carpet. Compared to the Academy Awards and the MET Gala, the Tony Awards typically tends to be a little more subdued, but the actresses competed in chic outfits.
Carey Mulligan, nominated for Best Actress in a Play for her role in "Skylight," wore a strapless dress by Balenciaga. Her maroon color, minimalist design, and down-styled hair highlighted her minimalist beauty. Ruth Wilson, nominated for Best Actress in a Play for "The Number of Stars," wore a long dress by Ralph Lauren. The top had a simple, fitted T-shirt-like design, and the skirt was made of silk. It was a vibrant fuchsia pink.
Vanessa Hudgens, currently starring in the Broadway musical "Gigi," wore a halter dress by Naeem Khan. The floral print and low-cut back were gorgeous. Amanda Seyfried attended the ceremony in a floral jacquard mini dress by Oscar de La Renta. She's currently starring in the off-Broadway play "The Way We Get By." The off-shoulder design flattered her neckline, creating a striking effect. Kendall Jenner, who also attended the awards ceremony for some reason, wore a mini dress. It was a salmon pink Calvin Klein dress with a simple front but an open back. Jennifer Lopez wore a midnight blue Valentino dress. This classic actress style was refreshing, as she's often seen wearing sexy nude dresses on the red carpet.
Also catching the eye with her daring plunging neckline was Helen Mirren, winner of the Best Actress in a Play award. Her long white dress by Badgley Mischka featured a plunging neckline and lace sleeves. Following her starring role in the film "The Queen," Helen also received the highest honor in the American theater world for her role as Queen Elizabeth II in the play "The Audience." She pulled off the sexy dress with the grace of a 69-year-old.
