In particular, the image of the moon floating on the water's surface, known as "Suigetsu," which reflects the transience of the moon as it changes appearance with each passing day, has fired people's imaginations, giving rise to countless stories and poems. This fleeting beauty is expressed through the lustrous, new pure white dial, a color unique to Arita ware, and the crocodile strap, which evokes the way the surface of water is softly illuminated by the moonlight.
The pure white Arita ware dial, also known as "white porcelain"
The Arita ware dial, with its striking color and three-dimensional shape, required a long period of research and development to achieve the durability and precision required for a wristwatch dial. This dial, created by combining Japan's world-renowned traditions and techniques, is made from high-strength porcelain, which is more than four times stronger than conventional porcelain. The highly complex process, which involves casting using ultra-high-precision molds, firing at a high temperature of 1,300°C, followed by glazing and multiple firings, is supervised by potter Hiroyuki Hashiguchi of the 190-year-old Shingama kiln. Traditional Arita ware is characterized by a pale bluish white, but this piece uses a transparent glaze to create a "white porcelain" dial that makes the most of the pure white of the porcelain material. Furthermore, the large curve of the dial's top surface, which is unique to slightly thick porcelain, and the soft undulations of the subdials give it the elegant look that is unique to porcelain.
Arita ware potter Hashiguchi Hiroyuki
After joining Shingama in 1983, he mastered careful and precise techniques and sophisticated blue and white porcelain porcelain painting, and has won numerous awards, including the Minister of International Trade and Industry Award at the Kyushu Yamaguchi Ceramics Exhibition. In 1996, he was certified as a traditional craftsman for underglaze painting in Imari and Arita ware. He then launched the brand "Seika Takumi," an expansion of Shingama's "Seika" style, and his more refined designs and painting techniques have been highly praised.
