GUCCI Ginza Theater reopens, first screening is 4K version of "Rebel Without a Cause" starring James Dean

Jun 18, 2015

Gucci Cinema Visionaries, the theater on the sixth floor of Gucci's Ginza shopping mall, reopened on July 1 after a maintenance hiatus. The theater's first screening since reopening will be the timeless James Dean classic, "Rebel Without a Cause," running from July 1 to September 30. Directed by Nicholas Ray, "Rebel Without a Cause" was released in 1955. The story begins with teenager Jim Stark (James Dean) moving to a new town and soon finding himself embroiled in a conflict with a local high school gang. Capturing the zeitgeist of the 1950s through the prism of teenage angst, the film's title became synonymous with the youth of the time. The film not only brought immortality to James Dean, but is also known as the catalyst for the rise of Hollywood stars such as Natalie Wood, Sal Mineo, and Dennis Hopper. For this screening, Gucci collaborated with The Film Foundation, a non-profit film preservation organization founded by film director Martin Scorsese in 2013, to restore and revive the deteriorated masterpiece in 4K digital cinema.
