[LOOK] Balenciaga presents its Fall 24 collection in Los Angeles

Dec 7, 2023
Balenciaga presented its Fall 24 collection on December 2, 2023, in Los Angeles, California. This was the brand's first show in the city. The show, set among palm-tree-lined streets and overlooking the Hollywood sign, was presented in bright sunshine, evoked the brand's signature everyday atmosphere.

With custom tracks featuring multiple voiceovers and compositions by BFRND, the lineup showcases Demna's interpretation of LA's fashion codes through a cinematic, character-driven lens. Ideas are applied to everyday activities like jogging, yoga, and gym sessions, and then to Hollywood evenings with step-and-repeat Cristóbal Balenciaga-inspired gowns. In between, updated grunge, upscaled daywear, and signature tailoring take center stage.

The collection kicks off with an activewear chapter. The pieces are straightforward, including shorts, bra tops, leggings, and sweatshirts. A jersey section follows, which takes inspiration from the American velour tracksuit craze of the 2000s and celebrity street style photography. New iterations of the suit feature low-rise trousers, some of which fall low enough to reveal underwear, paired with cropped hooded jackets and knee-high Alaska boots.

Next comes neo-grunge. Garments are oversized and layered. Key pieces include cut-up asymmetrical trousers, a hand-embroidered leopard print coat, outdoor hotel slippers, and a leather bag lined with a nylon shopper tote.

Many pieces, styled with flattened square shoulders or tweed coordinating, bridge the gap between informality and glamour with upscaled daywear, outsized proportions, and precise tailoring. Hooded jackets feature built-in scarves that can be used to deter paparazzi.

The finale was evening wear. Shapes and silhouettes were highly defined, with many garments fusing past and present by referencing original designs created by Cristóbal Balenciaga himself. Wrap coat dresses were cut with angular, lavish shapes, while one-shoulder tailored gowns offered a softer impression. The final look promoted the incognito element with a structured face shield and an oversized white gown in heavy white satin.

Accessories include a new croc-embossed Rodeo bag, named after the Beverly Hills street where Balenciaga's two L.A. flagship stores are located, as well as essential bags like the knitted 24/7 and Monaco totes. Eyewear features evolved mask and batwing styles, as well as a new Malibu line with elastic temples and ultra-flexible frames crafted from premium titanium. A new footwear offering will be unveiled: a 10XL sneaker, amplifying Balenciaga's signature sense of exaggeration in proportion. Two select colorways (yellow/white/blue and blue/gray/black) will be available as exclusive releases.

In addition to the 10XL sneakers, a number of exclusive releases will be available immediately following the show. These include leather and paper tote bags, jerseys, caps, and aprons created in collaboration with LA-based grocery store Erewhon; the new Le Cagole XL tote; No Logo jersey pieces; and high jewelry in collaboration with Jacob & Co. The jewelry designs reflect the spirit of American youth culture while retaining the luxury of Made in the USA.
