Enjoy a beautiful welcome drink, fresh fruit, chocolates, and a special dinner in Thailand [SOFITEL SO BANGKOK vol.2]

Jun 28, 2015

One of the joys of traveling is dining, where you can savor the country's unique ingredients and culinary culture. Of course, at SOFITEL SO BANGKOK, you can fully enjoy this experience.

The first thing that will surprise you upon arriving at the hotel is the welcome drink that is brought to you as soon as you sit down in the lounge. A staff member appears holding a test-tube-like stick filled with colorful liquid, and while greeting you, begins pouring the clear liquid into a glass full of ice.

Then, the second bottle is poured, a beautiful deep violet liquid. Apparently, it's actually a syrup made from edible flowers. When the third lemongrass is added, the drink in the glass quickly turns ruby red.

I heard that this impressive performance is inspired by a Thai story. The story goes that long ago, in order to soothe a crying child, the parents mixed several liquids together to create a drink. The child was surprised, but the resulting delicious drink brought a smile to his face and a complete halt to his tears. "It's just a legend, so we don't know if it's true," the staff member laughed, but the story certainly made the experience even more impactful. In fact, there are many other "stories" hidden within the hotel besides the welcome drink. For example, the elevator. At SOFITEL SO BANGKOK, the elevator is called a "time capsule," because the first floor represents the past and the top floor, the 29th floor, represents the future. Just knowing this fact adds to the fun of exploring the hotel, but if you want to learn more, you can take advantage of the free hotel tours available daily. Next to the welcome drink, we'll introduce the breakfast buffet. The breakfast buffet at SOFITEL SO BANGKOK is available at the Red Oven restaurant on the 7th floor. Its fiery name comes from the design, which is based on the element of fire. As its name suggests, the restaurant's wide variety of menu items will instantly excite you upon entering. In addition to tropical fruits like pineapple, mango, and lychee, there's also a wide selection of spicy Asian salads and soups, as well as freshly baked breads and sweets. Choose from a variety of noodles, all made piping hot on the spot. The tables are spaciously spaced, and the high ceilings and spaciousness make it a great place to take your time and enjoy breakfast. You might even consider having a light lunch and enjoying the breakfast to recharge your energy for the day.

As an alternative to a light lunch, try CHOCOLAB on the first floor of the building. Enjoying sweet treats while watching delicate works of art being made in the glass-walled "lab" is sure to enrich your soul.

Chocolate chunks are 30 baht each. They also offer flavors like chili, ponzu, coriander, and curry, so if you like something a little more unique, be sure to try them. If you're a sweet tooth who can't handle an insatiable appetite, why not combine the Chocolate Burger (250 baht) with an iced chocolate float (190 baht) or hot chocolate Vienna (200 baht)?

For something more unique, we recommend the Chocolate Cracking Ball (350 baht), a large chocolate ball broken open with a chocolate hammer, revealing fruit and sauces inside. You can even request custom chocolates in your preferred shape, perfect for an anniversary stay.

To make your special day even more special, we recommend enjoying a special dinner at Park Society Restaurant & Bar on the 29th and 30th floors. The menu offers a variety of tempting dishes, from original dishes like foie gras (800 baht) adorned with vibrant fruits and edible flowers to Risotto Tom Yum (750 baht), a Western-style take on the classic tom yum goong, to desserts like Volcano (350 baht), in which brandy is poured and ignited in a spectacular display.

In addition, dining options are available throughout the hotel, including the lounge bar, which offers everything from light snacks to alcoholic beverages. Enjoy gourmet food at all three times of the day.
