Versace's 2016 Spring/Summer Men's Collection, unveiled in Milan on the 20th, was a stark departure from last season's Cuban theme, showcasing an earthy, safari-inspired world reminiscent of desert nomads. The show kicked off with Tinarien-esque scarves dangling throughout the venue, fluttering in the breeze. The collection featured oversized shoulders and slim-fitting waist-shaping tops. Layering with long knitwear was a new silhouette, a concept introduced for the Fall/Winter 2015 collection. Layering styles included long shirts, blousons, and shorts, all crafted from lightweight, thin materials like silk, fine wool, and nylon. A gold zip-up blouson was a key piece, accented by prints like a hooded silk blouson with a Greek motif. Some pieces even featured a sun-faded tie-dye effect. References to Versace Home interior fabrics were also incorporated into the collection, simplifying the overall direction of Versace as a brand.
The key icon Medusa motif is used sparingly on bags and accessories, including the track jacket that was introduced last autumn/winter, but it is not emphasized too much, making for a collection that maintains the Versace style of "worn by men who shine even in the desert."
