Respect for the craft of clothing. Personal expression.
Balenciaga presented Summer 24 in a theater setting draped in red velvet. Friends, family, and colleagues were key influences. There's a personal resonance. The show reflects Demna's world and the identities that make up his community.

The sound was composed by BFRND and explores the premise of sonic couture. The soundtrack features three aural elements: orchestra, piano and electronica, and a narration by Isabelle Huppert, who recites instructions on how to make a tailored jacket from La Veste Tailleur Homme, a manual reformatted for the show's invitation booklet.

Look 1 features Ella, the designer's mother and first style inspiration, wearing an upcycled car coat. The piece is made from three vintage garments that were dismantled and reused. The tailoring is done with signature technique and attitude. A 2D effect is applied to create flat, straight shoulders without padding. The cut is wide and has a pleated effect. The pieces are crafted with couturier-like precision from British wool.

Daywear is versatile, suitable for both home and public occasions. The long, A-line skirt features detachable panels that can be attached or removed to create a shorter silhouette. A terry bathrobe serves as a coat. The jacket's neckline is widened and deconstructed, allowing it to be worn off the shoulder or casually draped over the arm. The biker jacket is crafted from recycled, deadstock leather panels. The garments are presented as basic, utilitarian, and hierarchical.

Evening wear concludes the collection. A circle dress, vinyl-printed with retro tablecloth florals, evolves into an upcycled gown made from pieces sourced from vintage shops in Europe and the US. The finale look features BFRND (the designer's husband) wearing an ensemble of seven pre-2000s wedding dresses, cut, tiered, and layered anew.

This collection embraces sustainability innovation. The floor-length bathrobes are primarily constructed from LUNAFORM™, a leather alternative with a lower environmental impact. This marks the first time this material has been applied to fashion. It was designed exclusively for Balenciaga. The animal- and plastic-free textile is made from fermented nanocellulose.

Accessories include the new Rodeo bag, which incorporates an open flap to resemble a classic leather carrier. Some styles feature heavy decorative chains. The Stiletto and Classic Derby double as clutches. Other pieces include the textured leather Antwerp Shopper and a series of soft, deconstructed luggage-inspired bags. The wallet resembles a passport and features an inset leather boarding pass.

The footwear offers exaggerated proportions, tennis-sock heels, and at-home comfort. Each shoe is available in a wide range of sizes for both men and women. The new Cargo sneaker is oversized. Microfiber and mesh versions, limited to 1,000 pairs, will be released exclusively after the show.
