"DAVID BOWIE is," a major retrospective of David Bowie, who passed away in January 2016, will open on January 8th at the Terrada Warehouse G1 Building in Shinagawa, Tokyo. Delving into the full scope of Bowie, one of the most iconic artists of the 20th century, the exhibition will showcase 300 carefully selected items from the museum's vast archive of 75,000 items. The exhibition will also feature an interactive experience where visitors can listen to Bowie's music and interviews through headphones. Upon stepping inside, visitors will feel as if Bowie is still alive, and their dazzling stardom will surely send goosebumps through their spine. At the end of the exhibition, there will also be a "Show Moment" where visitors can watch live footage of Bowie on a giant monitor. This traveling exhibition, which began at London's Victoria and Albert Museum in 2013, has toured nine countries, including the United States and Europe, captivating 1.6 million visitors and continuing to break records. This "miraculous exhibition" has finally arrived in Japan, its only Asian location! As Bowie was a Japanophile, the exhibition will feature a specially filmed interview with Takeshi Kitano and Ryuichi Sakamoto, who co-starred with him in "Burgundy Christmas," discussing Bowie. Curators Victoria Broeks and Geoffrey Marsh point to highlights of the exhibition, including storyboards Bowie created for the film adaptation of his 1974 album "Diamond Dogs," and a list of 100 of Bowie's favorite books, as he was an avid reader. Bowie, a multi-talented artist who loved art, painted, and acted, was not only involved in composing his music; he was also actively involved in and controlled every aspect of the process, from album concepts to costumes, stage imagery, artwork, and music videos. Each of the vast exhibits embodies Bowie's philosophy of constantly pursuing new forms of expression, making this a truly comprehensive retrospective.

Also not to be missed are the costumes designed by a stellar array of designers, including Alexander McQueen's Union Jack coat, Kansai Yamamoto's "Aladdin Sane" costumes, and elegant suits by Giorgio Armani and Hedi Slimane. Each piece is outlandish and transcends gender, demonstrating how David Bowie utilized the power of fashion to the fullest in each of his various roles.

The official shop on the first floor sells merchandise exclusive to Japan. The exhibition will feature a 7-inch vinyl record exclusive to the venue, a reprint of the sold-out official catalogue "DAVID BOWIE is," accessories decorated with Swarovski crystals, as well as posters, notebooks, tote bags and mugs featuring the cover photo of "Aladdin Sane," which is also the visual for the exhibition.
