Matohu's acclaimed "Keicho Beauty" exhibition, held in 2011, will be held at the CCC Gallery in Shizuoka Prefecture from January 14 to February 5.
For five years and 10 seasons since 2005, Matohu has been incorporating inspiration from art and crafts created during the Keicho era (1596-1615), spanning the late Momoyama and early Edo periods, into fashion design.
The exhibition will feature Matohu's original "nagagi" (long garments), which are neither kimono nor Western clothing, the period that most strongly reflects each season's theme. The garments will be introduced alongside the history and art and crafts that inspired each season's theme, providing an opportunity to reaffirm how Japanese culture is inspiring the latest fashion trends.
Also on display will be the "Keicho Beauty Picture Scroll," a 10-meter-long project made up of five years' worth of invitations explaining each season's theme.
In addition, a pop-up shop will be open from January 14th to 24th at Mihoharaya Loft (2-4-1 Ryogaecho, Aoi Ward, Shizuoka Prefecture), located near the venue. A talk event by designer Matofu will also be held from 14:00 to 15:00 on January 15th.
