On June 21, the first day of Paris Men's Fashion Week, Pierpaolo Piccioli's Valentino Spring/Summer 2018 men's collection was held in the event space of a former mansion on Boulevard d'Iena. The coach jackets, sweatshirts, and running pants all had a sporty feel. However, each piece was crafted from the finest materials, befitting a couture house. Last season's beautiful color palette, inspired by the paintings of Francis Bacon, was transformed into something more vibrant and fresh. A top that at first glance resembled a jersey blouson was crafted from textured silk like crepe, or patchworked with napa leather, showcasing the designer's technique of mixing different materials. Many of the coats were crafted from double-faced cashmere, and sweatsuits featured embroidered motifs in white beading, showcasing the delicate touches of a couture house. This season's eye-catching pieces included slim lariat-like scarves. The collection features a jacquard-woven stretch material with a tribal motif and tassels on both ends, with the key feature being that it can be worn through an inner layer and revealed from the hem.
There was also a wide variety of sneakers, some made from stretch material with a tribal motif and some with mirrors for a glamorous look. From head to toe, the collection presented the perfect example of luxurious sportswear.
