Inspired by school wear: CHARLES & KEITH × CECILIE BAHNSEN collaboration collection

A shoe collection created in collaboration between CHARLES & KEITH and CECILIE BAHNSEN has been launched. Inspired by traditional school wear, the collection features four items: three pairs of Mary Janes and a mule, each with a classic shape and a beautiful finish reminiscent of haute couture.

"We've always been fascinated by school wear, which is why we love Mary Janes in the Charles & Keith collection. They're a traditional girly school shoe, but they also have that masculine/feminine contrast that we're always looking for. Historically, Mary Janes aren't just for girls; in the 20th century, little boys wore them too. We used patchwork and hand-painted embroidery to give them a more feminine look than previous shoes. We think the combination of Charles & Keith's classic shapes and our details is beautiful. It was exciting to translate our worldview into shoes. It felt like we were turning a dress into a shoe."

"Since the company's founding, we have always supported designers in the fashion and artistic scenes. When we met Cecilie, it was an instant opportunity to combine our shoemaking know-how with her incredible artisanal knowledge. We discussed new feminine designs, unique silhouettes and volumes, and distinctive fabrics, and we immediately clicked. We have had great fun collaborating with Cecilie on these four capsule collections. The idea was to express her unique way of thinking about 'femininity' and stay true to Cecilie's DNA of translating dreamy dresses into shoes. This collaboration is also about creating something unique and very responsible. We have upcycled Cecilie's beautiful fabrics to create pieces in recycled satin with bespoke patchwork and hand-quilted embroidery, which sends a positive message through this collection."



This collection combines two of Cecilie's most important elements: "recycled satin with beautiful quilted embroidery" and "patches from Cecilie's clothing production" that have been repurposed and given new life.
The collection revives patterns and colors that Cecilie debuted in her A/W 2019 collection. This color palette is expressed in black and white, which stand out against the color, and the lemon yellow of the Camellia Mules.
The collection was thoughtfully created with the intention of reducing the amount of new fabric used, including reusing patches from previous seasons.




The collection will be available at CHARLESKEITH.JP from May 25, 2020.
*The campaign was shot at Benedikt Brinkat Herksholm School, Denmark's most prestigious boarding school, south of Copenhagen.
