Swiss luxury watchmaker TAG Heuer has partnered with Porsche in 2021 to create two new masterpieces: the TAG Heuer Carrera Chronosprint x Porsche.

This new model commemorates the 60th anniversary of the TAG Heuer Carrera collection and the Porsche 911 (originally named the 901). This timepiece combines the best of both watchmaking and automobiles for unparalleled timekeeping. Combining speed and precision, it captures the essence of the first Porsche's impressive acceleration record of just 9.1 seconds to 100 km/h – a record that would go down in history with even more impressive figures as the 911 evolved.

Since its groundbreaking debut in 1963, the Porsche 911 has captivated enthusiasts with its unwavering commitment to performance, precision, and innovation. This iconic car astounded the world with its power, agility, and technical prowess, as well as its record-breaking 0-100 km/h time of just 9.1 seconds. The Porsche 911's astounding acceleration underscored Porsche's commitment to performance and innovation. It paved the way for subsequent 911 models to push boundaries and set new records for speed and driving dynamics.
In 1963, the Heuer Carrera was introduced. Its meticulous design clearly expressed Jack Heuer's philosophy, inspired by the Carrera Panamericana race. This model combined racing spirit with practicality and functionality, a stripped-back design for enhanced legibility. Jack felt that the name Carrera was the perfect name for this watch.
Sixty years later. In 2023, TAG Heuer will once again pay tribute to Porsche's incredible speed records, bringing to life an innovative design and concept-driven timepiece with the TAG Heuer Carrera Chronosprint x Porsche. Available in both stainless steel and gold, the watch celebrates the iconic status of the Porsche 911 and its remarkable performance history, combining the spirit behind Porsche's landmark records with TAG Heuer's unwavering pursuit of excellence.

In a tribute to precision and speed, TAG Heuer debuts the new TH20-08 movement, a new interpretation of the TH20 family of in-house calibres unveiled at Watches & Wonders 2023.

Designed for precise measurement of short durations, the TH20-08 movement replicates the Porsche 901's 0-100 km/h time of 9.1 seconds. The central hand accelerates effortlessly, then gradually decelerates over 60 seconds before quickly restarting. The design choices give the dial clear legibility.

This movement features a unique mechanism using two snail-shaped wheels, which create the fascinating decelerated movement of the central hand. The wheels are manufactured using the cutting-edge LIGA process, widely used in the MEMS industry. Demonstrating TAG Heuer's commitment to precision, craftsmanship and captivating design, the TH20-08 sets new standards in watchmaking.

Refined, assertive and memorable, these two timepieces not only pay homage to a glorious past, but also exude something even more. The stainless steel and gold models each have their own unique design concepts.
The watch dials captivate the viewer with their visual expression of speed and acceleration. The red stripe on the flange is a tribute to the original Porsche 911, representing 0-100 km/h acceleration in just 9.1 seconds. This dynamic element gives the timepieces a sense of movement and dynamism.
Further red details throughout the watch echo inspiration from the automotive world. The subdial at 6 o'clock is reminiscent of the iconic Porsche dashboards of the 1970s, which prominently displayed the recommended urban speed of approximately 50 km/h.
A further tribute to the rich heritage of sports cars is the red dot on the subdial at 9 o'clock, which indicated the limit at which the engine was at risk of damage. It's no coincidence that the red line starts at 6:8 o'clock, representing the engine's limit of 6,800 rpm. The counter hands, whose design is inspired by car dashboards, also feature throughout the watch, drawing inspiration from the automotive world.
Another pleasant surprise is the double glass box, a new dimension of innovation pioneered by the TAG Heuer Carrera Chronosprint x Porsche. It's called the "glass box" because it's made of a domed crystal, a tribute to the similarly domed Hesalite crystals of the 1970s. The redesigned glass box curves naturally over the tachymeter scale, extending to the edge of the dial and integrating into the case. This innovative design, a first for a TAG Heuer Carrera, enhances legibility through the glass front, while the glass caseback reveals a captivating view of the watch's intricate mechanics. The caseback reveals a specially designed rotor that recreates Porsche's iconic three-spoke design.

Both models are presented on calf leather straps, available in brown for the gold model and black for the stainless steel model. The embossed "911" logo on the strap is a nod to Porsche that will resonate with enthusiasts and connoisseurs of this iconic sports car.

The dial and flange of the stainless steel model are silver, while the gold edition is beige, creating a sophisticated elegance. Both timepieces are delivered in special TAG Heuer x Porsche design packaging, enhanced with gold and stainless steel accents reminiscent of the respective watches.

A natural blend of horological craftsmanship and automotive excellence, the TAG Heuer Carrera Chronosprint x Porsche represents the pinnacle of collaboration between two legendary brands. Sharing a commitment to excellence, performance and timeless design, TAG Heuer and Porsche once again highlight their shared history and passion for motor racing.
What they have created together is more than just a watch; it is a true symbol of the passion and expertise of both companies. These timepieces embody the spirit of speed, precision and enduring heritage, and are a tangible testament to their unwavering pursuit of excellence.
