The power of a single painting remains unchanged even in this day and age. Online exhibition begins on "OIL by Bijutsu Techo"

Event Date:2020.04.30
May 1, 2020
The "Power of a Single Painting" exhibition, organized by contemporary art gallery HARUKAITO by island, will begin on April 30th in collaboration with the art e-commerce site "OIL by Bijutsu Techo." A portion of the proceeds from sales of the artworks will be donated to the artists and to those affected by the spread of COVID-19 through the Oriental Culture Support Foundation. The actual exhibition will also be open to the public at PROJECT 501 from May 20th to 31st (reservation required).

The "Power of a Single Painting" exhibition was born as part of "Art Action 3331" in 2011, the year of the Great East Japan Earthquake. Under the theme of "The Unchanging Power of a Single Painting," donations collected through donation boxes set up at the venue were delivered to the art NPO AID. Since then, various versions have been planned and held at NADiff in 2012 and BLOCK HOUSE in 2017.

This time, "The Power of a Single Painting" will be exhibited online at "OIL by Bijutsu Techo." A portion of the proceeds will be donated to artists who continue to work diligently on their art, even in this current situation, and to those affected by the impact of COVID-19.

Works are priced at a base price of 130,000 yen, with proceeds going toward artists, system management fees, and donations. Purchasers can also choose to donate an amount of their choice on top of the base price (there is no upper limit). Donations will be used to support those affected by the spread of COVID-19 through the Eastern Culture Support Foundation*.

In addition, with the cooperation of Wasano Yuki, an exhibition will also be held at "PROJECT 501" for a limited time from May 20th to 30th, and the contents will also be delivered in 3D ARCHIVE and video. (http://project501.tokyo)

(*) Eastern Culture Support Foundation: A foundation established by Nakano Yoshitoshi, former president of Warehouse Terrada, after he received the Montblanc International Cultural Award in 2018. By creating a borderless network and providing cultural support across Tokyo, Asia, and national borders, the foundation continues to work towards establishing a conflict-free Eastern cultural sphere. The foundation supports "Startbahn Cert.", a blockchain certificate issuing service with an IC tag for art, and plans to offer it at this exhibition.

■From Ito Yu, Director of HARUKAITO by island
I believe that there were our predecessors who continued to paint, even during the Great Depression and wartime. I believe that the artists who are still working silently in their studios are facing their paintings with sincerity. What I have done up until now has been to introduce people to the work of these artists, so I believe that this is still something I can do.
If you view a work of art online and like it, it will be delivered to you in a little while. Living with an art piece makes you think of this person and that person, and it encourages you. I look forward to it arriving at your home.
