For Maria Grazia Chiuri, Mexico is an evocative "place of the soul," as it was also perceived by Surrealist artists. Frida Kahlo is the subject of the Cruise 2024 collection.

The iconic figure of Mexican artist Frida Kahlo is deeply linked to Mexican culture. Through her clothing, she transcended her body to convey messages of expression, declaration, protest or affirmation. Like a jewellery box to house a fragile body, the cocoon-like look hiding the butterfly transforms into a motif appearing in a variety of colours, shapes and prints. Lace in various fabrics – cotton, hemp and silk – delicate collar designs in jersey and black velvet, and butterfly-like jacquards evoke the beauty of fragility.

Once again, Maria Grazia Chiuri has cultivated strong ties with exceptional local artisans. In collaboration with their workshops, original embroideries adorn dresses and shirts. A femininity nurtured by a connection to the bounty of nature is expressed through a balance of thoughtfulness and lightness.

The location of the show reflected the personal elements that inspired Maria Grazia Chiuri. The show took place at the San Ildefonso Institute, the iconic place where Frida Kahlo studied and met Diego Rivera, her lifelong mentor and lover. This special location also featured a performance by Mexican feminist artist Elina Chauvet. Mexico, a land of the heart, expresses the collection's emotional modulations and vibrant colors, balancing deep reflection with lightness, a femininity nurtured by a connection with the richness of nature.

The event was attended by a number of glamorous celebrities, including Alicia Keys, Rachel Zegler, Emma Raducanu, Naomi Watts, Emma Myers, Laetitia Casta, Razane Jamal, Riley Keough, and Monica Barbaro, as well as actress Rikako Yagi from Japan.
