Montblanc Meisterstück Around the World in 80 Days
Celebrating the wonder of the classic adventure novel that has captivated generations, Around the World in 80 Days is back with a special edition collection of Meisterstück writing instruments and accessories. The best-selling novel tells the extraordinary journey of English gentleman Phileas Fogg and his loyal butler Jean Passepartout as they circumnavigate the globe in just 80 days to win an audacious bet. To accomplish this epic challenge, the two adventurers race against time by steamship, train, and elephant. Inspired by the spirit of travel and adventure, this second edition of the Montblanc Meisterstück Around the World in 80 Days collection continues the journey from Bombay, where the first edition ended, to Yokohama. The collection also includes a new 811-piece limited edition that meticulously recreates the collection's key design elements using fine materials and exquisite handcraftsmanship. Representing their journey through India and China before arriving in Japan, the writing instrument features designs evocative of the cultures of these countries, including Indian paisley, five coins of Chinese Qing Dynasty emperors, and traditional Japanese wave patterns. The cartouche on the cap depicts Kioni, the great elephant who ferried the adventurers through the jungle. Other details include the number "80" on the cap top, signifying the full journey from start to finish, and the number "25" on the back of the cap, representing the number of days it took to travel from Bombay to Yokohama.
Representing the card game that inspired this adventurous journey, the clip is adorned with a red lacquered playing card diamond symbol, while the cone is engraved with a playing card symbol symbolizing Fogg's bet and a pattern inspired by the jewel of Princess Aouda, with whom he fell in love. The burnt wood effect on the Solitaire and Limited Editions represents Princess Aouda, who was rescued by Fogg from a fire ritual. The hot air balloon engraved on the nib pays tribute to Jules Verne and his first adventure novel, Five Weeks in a Balloon, while the inscriptions "20/10" and "14/11" next to it refer to October 20th, the date Mr. Fogg left Bombay, and November 14th, the date he left Yokohama.
