An event for "new essence," a Kansai-based project that considers the essence of manufacturing, began on February 19th at Lucua 1100 in Osaka.


"new essence" is a project based on the concept of "What is the essence of manufacturing...?" and was launched by a team of four Kansai-based people: aokiyuri (accessory designer), mufu (a unit consisting of antique shop owner itou and graphic designer urakawa shota (omote)), and NOK (hairdresser).

The first-ever event, "new essence vol.01," will be held in the event space on the fourth floor of Lucua 1100. Ten brands committed to unconventional manufacturing will come together to create a special shop where their respective sensibilities intersect.

Itou, who also handled the venue display, is an antiques shop located in Ichijoji, Kyoto. They deal in many "objects (things) that are not necessary for daily life," regardless of country or era.

Three Craft Room creates clothes while also serving as a space for people to experience all the joys of making things. The clothes, which have a clean image and appear simple at first glance, subtly give the wearer comfort, a sense of exhilaration, and depth through a carefully crafted balance.

Elements is a project by art director Okida Yosuke, architect Inoue Masahiko, and graphic designer Yokoyama Michio that experimentally explores the process of making things using everyday phenomena and elements. They will be selling products created around the theme of "fire," including their signature work "Fire molding."

NOTA_SHOP, based in Koka, Shiga, is a shop that deals in ceramic works. They recently exhibited as a gallery at the "Seika no Kai | Crafts Festival 2020" held in Kagurazaka, Tokyo, and curated works by artists including elements.

Other exhibitors include jewelry brands aokiyuri, kikkou, and ATAKA, fashion brand hatsutoki, DayDay Dressmaking Shop, and everyday wear by Taipei-based Chen Teacher.

"New Essence" is an event where you can encounter new essences that go beyond mere trends and consumption, and is running until March 3rd.
