An exhibition commemorating the publication of "The New Tree Girl," a new picture book created by KIGI's Watanabe Yoshie together with novelist Fukunaga Makoto, will be held from November 28th to December 25th at the OFS gallery inside OUR FAVOURITE SHOP in Shirokane, Tokyo.


The picture book "The New Tree Girl" (published by Little More, 1,800 yen) is a new work created by Watanabe Yoshie, author of the classic adult picture book "Brooch," and novelist Fukunaga Makoto. The story is about a girl and a pearl, inspired by Lake Biwa pearls, which have been attracting attention again in recent years. This masterpiece embodies simple, gentle illustrations, a soothing rhythm of repeated questions and answers, and the preciousness of time. It also comes with an explanatory booklet titled "How Lake Biwa Pearls Are Made."


Also available is the "Shinju no Ko [Limited Edition] with a Single Lake Biwa Pearl" (Little More, ¥3,800), which contains a single genuine Lake Biwa pearl. The enclosed "Lake Biwa Pearl" is a freshwater pearl produced by the pond butterfly oyster, a species endemic to Lake Biwa. "Nucleated pearls," which are made entirely of nacre without a nucleus, are synonymous with Lake Biwa pearls. No two pearls are the same, and they shine with a unique beauty and luster. It takes six years to complete, nurtured by the wisdom and hard work of the producers and the natural beauty of Lake Biwa.

The original case has a three-layer Basque construction, ensuring whiteness even at the cross section. The special edition is wrapped in a pure and elegant brilliance, with silver foil printing that shows different expressions depending on the angle. A picture book about pearls and a single pearl. This dream-like limited edition, in which the story connects to reality, is sure to be a special book this year.


In addition to introducing "Shinju no Ko," the exhibition event at OFS gallery will also feature an introduction to "Shinju no Ko" and original illustrations from picture books that Watanabe has worked on to date. "Shinju no Ko [Limited Edition] with a single Lake Biwa pearl" will also be on sale.

From 1pm to 5pm on December 7th and 8th, Jinbo Pearl Shop will be at the venue to hold a "Mobile Pearl Processing Event." If you purchase the picture book "Shinju no Ko [Limited Edition]" at the venue, or bring the book and a pearl you have purchased, you can request the included pearl to be processed into an accessory on the spot.
