Tudor releases highly anticipated new models for 2023, including the latest Black Bay model with a burgundy bezel

Mar 28, 2023
TUDOR is a Swiss watch brand offering mechanical timepieces that promise unique value, sophisticated style, and unwavering reliability. Throughout history, TUDOR watches have been the choice of the most fearless adventurers and seasoned professionals.

On March 27, 2023, TUDOR will unveil and release a new lineup of watches, including the new Black Bay 54, the METAS Master Chronometer-certified Black Bay, the completely redesigned steel Black Bay 31/36/39/41, the Black Bay GMT with an opaline dial, and the TUDOR ROYAL with new dial colors.

BLACK BAY

The latest Black Bay, featuring a burgundy bezel, features evolved design elements, a "T-fit" clasp and is Master Chronometer certified by METAS. The original Black Bay debuted in 2012 with a burgundy bezel and was equipped with a manufacture caliber in 2016. Now, it's back with a third evolution that heralds the future of the Black Bay line's aesthetics and technology. Tested by the Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology (METAS), the Black Bay combines cutting-edge watchmaking technology with design elements inspired by TUDOR's heritage of nearly 70 years of producing robust professional diving watches.

TUDOR QUALITY
The release of this latest Black Bay represents another TUDOR Master Chronometer-certified Black Bay, demonstrating the brand's relentless commitment to quality. This marks the third time that a TUDOR collection has been certified to this standard, marking a step towards future METAS certification for all collections.

COMPREHENSIVE INDEPENDENT CERTIFICATION AND HIGH STANDARDS
The METAS Master Chronometer certification tests the core functional characteristics required of a mechanical watch, including precision, magnetic resistance, water resistance and power reserve. The standards are extremely high: to be certified, a cased watch must achieve a daily deviation of within 5 seconds (0, +5 seconds). This is five seconds stricter than the COSC (Official Swiss Chronometer Certification Authority) standard of -4 to +6 seconds per day for movements, and one second less than Tudor's own standard of -2 to +4 seconds per day for complete watches equipped with manufacture movements. This certification also guarantees the watch's accuracy when exposed to a 15,000 gauss magnetic field.

THE MANUFACTURE CALIBRE MT5602-U
The Black Bay's Manufacture Caliber MT5602-U displays the hours, minutes, and seconds. In addition to the typical look and feel of a Tudor manufacture caliber, it features a laser-applied sun motif and Master Chronometer inscription on the bridge, highlighting its exceptional performance. When tested as a fully assembled wristwatch, the MT5602-U achieves the high standard of within 5 seconds per day (0/+5 seconds). Another notable feature is its "weekend proof" design with a power reserve of approximately 70 hours.

EMBLEMATIC LOOK
The Black Bay with its burgundy bezel is one of Tudor's most recognizable models. Rebranded as the Black Bay, the latest model boasts a slimmer case while retaining the original 41mm diameter proportions. The unidirectional rotating bezel features grippy sides and an insert with curved numerals that follow the contours of the outer ring. The design details extend beyond the case size and bezel, including the lollipop-shaped seconds hand, brushed satin black dial, and a crown that follows the side of the caseband to conceal its tubes.

STEEL BRACELETS OR RUBBER STRAP, ALL WITH “T-FIT”
The Black Bay comes with a satin-brushed three-link steel bracelet or a brushed and polished five-link oval steel bracelet, both featuring Tudor's self-adjusting “T-fit” clasp. The clasp allows the wearer to adjust the length by 8 mm in five positions, without the need for tools. A black rubber strap is also available, available in three sizes. Furthermore, the clasp features Tudor's exclusive “T-fit” clasp, which can be cut to fit the wearer's wrist for an optimal fit.

PRICE

BLACK BAY 54

A new model in the Black Bay line has been released, embodying the origins of the Tudor diver's watch in its purest and most modern form. In 1954, the reference 7922 was released. Today, the Black Bay 54 is born, evoking memories of that legendary model. Featuring a 37mm case and a Manufacture caliber, this timepiece most faithfully embodies the characteristics of Tudor's first diver's watch, the Reference 7922. Its classic 37mm case maintains the classic balance of the past, while the Tudor Manufacture Caliber MT5400, designed specifically for timekeeping and rated to a depth of 200m, and its unidirectional rotating bezel feature only graduated numerals, reflect the characteristics of the watches Tudor created for divers in the early 1950s. While the new design details extend beyond the case size and bezel, the seconds hand features a lollipop design reminiscent of the original model. The crown and bezel have been redesigned with modern ergonomics, while both retain historical proportions.

DIVING INTO THE PAST
The Black Bay line, incorporating iconic elements of Tudor's diver's watches, was conceived with inspiration from the past. Of these, the Black Bay 54 may be the most sincerely connected to history. The inspiration for this new model is the Oyster Prince Submariner Ref. 7922, famously recognized and adopted by the French and US navies. The Black Bay 54 follows the earliest 7922 models, which boasted a cleaner, more unified aesthetic. Many small design details that ultimately make a big difference remain, including adjusted proportions, narrow hands like those featured in the 1954 model, and a bezel edge design that offers a modern interpretation of the ergonomic design of the 7922. The Black Bay 54 also features modern touches, such as a satin-brushed dial and a bracelet with a "T-fit" clasp for flawless comfort.

THE MANUFACTURE CALIBRE MT5400
The Black Bay 54's Manufacture Caliber MT5400 features hour, minute, and second hands. Like all TUDOR manufacture calibers, it boasts distinctive finishing and achieves the high standard of within 6 seconds per day (-2, +4 seconds) when assembled into a wristwatch. Another notable feature is its "weekend proof" design, boasting a power reserve of approximately 70 hours.

STEEL BRACELET OR RUBBER STRAP
The Black Bay 54 comes with a brushed, triple-link steel bracelet with a self-adjusting "T-fit" quick-adjust clasp. The wearer can easily adjust the length over five 8mm positions without the need for tools. It is also available on a black rubber strap, available in three sizes and equipped with Tudor's exclusive "T-fit" clasp, which can be cut to fit any wrist. The interior features the eye-catching, iconic snowflake motif and is perfectly sized for this model.

BLACK BAY 31/36/39/41

The Black Bay collection introduces a completely revamped steel model. Available in four sizes, each with a fixed bezel and a self-adjusting five-piece link bracelet, all are powered by a Manufacture caliber. The rounded cases offer a design language that subtly departs from the brand's iconic tool watch ethos, embracing a unisex and chic vibe. All sizes feature Tudor's proprietary self-adjusting "T-fit" clasp. Each dial comes in a choice of blue, anthracite, or light champagne, while the minute track is a contrasting color, adding warmth to the design.

A CASE MADE OF CURVES AND SPARKLES
The cases of the Black Bay 31/36/39/41 feature sleek, sleek curves, reflecting the unmistakable Black Bay aesthetic. The polished case sides gently curve, providing a perfect fit for the newly designed crown. In addition to its captivating curves, the polished bezel and crown are inherited from the S&G model released last year.

TUDOR MANUFACTURE CALIBRES
Tudor's lineup of automatic manufacture movements is used in the Black Bay 31, 36, 39, and 41 sizes, and is divided into three families: large (MT56), medium (MT54), and small (MT52). Combining robustness, durability, reliability, and precision, these movements feature a variable inertia balance wheel, an anti-magnetic silicon balance spring, and are Swiss Official Chronometer certified. Other notable features include "weekendproof" capabilities with a power reserve of approximately 70 hours for the large and medium sizes, while the small size offers a power reserve of approximately 50 hours.

Five-Link Bracelets and Clasps with Rapid Adjustment
The Black Bay 31/36/39/41 feature a new five-link 316L steel bracelet. It comes with a robust 316L steel clasp featuring Tudor's exclusive "T-fit" adjustment system for rapid length adjustment. The clasp allows the wearer to adjust the length in five 8mm increments with simple, tool-free operation.

BLACK BAY GMT

Tudor is expanding its Black Bay GMT line with a new opaline dial that matches the distinctive burgundy and blue bezel, and of course, powered by a rock-solid manufacture caliber. This watch features a convenient multi-time zone mechanism, also known as a GMT function, allowing you to set the local time without losing track of the time in two other time zones. The watch also features a completely new opaline dial choice, featuring matte blue and burgundy finishes that accentuate the elegant design and perfectly complement the Black Bay GMT's iconic color scheme. Opaline is not completely white; the dial has a subtle silvery hue. A galvanic process gives the dial a matte white-gray finish, while the muted color surrounding the markers creates a striking contrast, making the opaline dial highly legible.

HIGH-FLYING FUNCTIONALITY
Additional time zones are indicated by Tudor's signature red "snowflake" GMT hand, which completes one revolution around the dial every 24 hours, and the bidirectional rotatable bezel, also featuring a 24-hour scale. The noon hour is marked on a burgundy section, and the night hour on a blue section. Water-resistant to 200 meters (660 feet), this watch is built to withstand the elements. A satin-brushed steel crown, a first for the Black Bay line, and a contrasting opaline dial, with luminescent hour markers, ensure legibility in all conditions, including nighttime.

THE MANUFACTURE CALIBRE MT5652
The Manufacture Caliber MT5652, featuring an integrated GMT function, jumping hour hand, and bidirectional date setting, was developed by Tudor specifically for the Black Bay GMT. Robust, durable, reliable, and precise, this movement's variable-inertia balance and anti-magnetic silicon balance spring ensure a high standard of accuracy of less than 6 seconds per day (-2, +4 seconds) when assembled. Another notable feature is that it is "weekend proof" with a power reserve of approximately 70 hours.
