CENTRESTAGE, an exhibition showcasing Asian fashion trends, was held for four days from September 4th to 7th at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Now in its fourth year, CENTRESTAGE brought together approximately 240 fashion brands from 23 countries and regions, and Hong Kong, as a fashion hub for Asia, is attracting attention from buyers from around the world. In addition, installations were also held outside the venue, making it a city-wide fashion promotion period.

“CENTERSTAGE ELITES”

The show began with giant monitors randomly placed on the runway projecting images of Hong Kong women, including designer Anaïs.



The diverse lace that Anaïs is known for and the sheer ruffles that sway with every step created a feminine and sensual silhouette. Also eye-catching were the python-patterned thigh-high boots peeking out from under the lace hems. The iconic KIRA CONFETTI PUFFER down jacket, made from a shiny material and featuring long-haired fur, was also shown.







ALTUZARRA

ALTUZARRA presented its Pre-Spring 2020 collection, featuring bias-cut A-line dresses, kaftans, and fringed suede jackets with a folkloric feel.




From the middle of the show, dresses with large stones adorning the waist and tailored sets were showcased, completing the collection's collection of pieces that epitomized sophisticated femininity.

Upcoming Hong Kong Brands

Numerous Hong Kong brands held booths and shows on the center stage. The lineup included cutting-edge designers such as Artistic Palace, 112mountainyam, ARTO., DEMO., DORISKATH, FAKE FAN, HARRISON WONG, KENAXLEUNG, METHODOLOGY, TAK L., and YDMH.

112mountainyam, which also participated last year and attracted a lot of attention from buyers, presented its Fall/Winter 2019 collection, featuring animal silhouettes and camouflage motifs in a vibrant primary color palette. "ARTO." is a brand made up of knitwear, and its striking designs feature three-dimensional, asymmetrical patterns and colours that resemble canvas paintings. The designer's paintings create a collection of pieces that make you feel like you're wearing a work of art, rediscovering the joy of fashion.

"CHARLOTTE NG STUDIO," which exudes femininity within a masculine atmosphere, presented a show in a setting reminiscent of working women. The oversized pockets are reminiscent of workwear, and the bold cutting creates a variety of different looks, while the structured silhouette is incorporated into the design.

During the event, a number of seminars for designers and buyers were also held. As part of the Meet the Visionaries Series, Anaïs Mack (left), designer of Anaïs Jordan, and Joseph Altuzarra (right), designer of Altuzarra, took to the stage to deliver messages to up-and-coming young designers. In a separate event, designer Yasuhiro Mihara of MIHARAYASUHIRO, who was invited as a VIP judge for the Hong Kong Young Fashion Designers Contest (YDC), spoke with Professor Bassia Schutznicka of the Institute of Textile Science at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, discussing the value-added crossover between brands.





More than just a collection show, the center stage provided a valuable experience for visiting designers and buyers. It was a valuable four days where we were able to engage with fashion head-on.
