Photographer Kawashima Kotori's photo exhibition will be held in Shinagawa, along with poems by Tanikawa Shuntaro

Event Date:2019.07.20-09.09

Canon Gallery S in Shinagawa is hosting a photo exhibition by photographer Kawashima Kotori titled "I Like Things That Have No Name Yet" from July 20th to September 9th. A gallery talk by the artist will be held on August 31st.

This exhibition features approximately 100 black-and-white and color works, primarily unpublished, that capture "countless fragments of the world" that Kawashima Kotori has been collecting over the years. The title, "I Like Things That Have No Name Yet," is a line from a poem by poet Shuntaro Tanikawa, a close friend and co-author of a book with Kawashima. Approximately 30 of Tanikawa's poems are also on display, creating an exhibition space that blends photography and poetry. All works will be printed on Canon's imagePROGRAF large-format printer and then exhibited.

Kawashima says, "These photographs capture 'countless fragments of the world.' Some were taken recently, others 20 years ago. These are photographs that seem to have been taken spontaneously, as if they were moved by something. The words in the poems are not meant to complement the photographs, nor vice versa. I hope this exhibition will connect the photographs, poetry, and the hearts of those who come to see them."

Starting at 4:00 PM on August 31st, a gallery talk will be held with guest editor Keiko Kawaguchi, where Kawashima will share explanations and anecdotes about the exhibited works.
