Shibuya Parco, which has been closed since August 2016 due to reconstruction, will have its grand opening on November 22, 2019. How has the new Shibuya Parco been reborn? We covered the preview held on the 19th ahead of the opening.

The building will be centered around the five pillars of "FASHION," "ART & CULTURE," "ENTERTAINMENT," "FOOD," and "TECHNOLOGY," and will feature a unique lineup of stores, including many first-time retailers and new business formats. The floor layout maintains a playful spirit, mixing genres within each category.

At the press conference, Executive Vice President Takashi Izumi commented, "We took fashion more seriously than ever before, especially now, when the apparel industry is facing tougher conditions." Based on criteria unconstrained by brand size or fame, the mall has gathered approximately 100 shops representing a variety of genres, including luxury, fashion, street, casual, and vintage. The mall has attracted luxury brands led by GUCCI, and also features a lineup of top Japanese brands that are maintaining their success, such as COMME des GARÇONS GIRL, Yohji Yamamoto, and ISSEY MIYAKE.

Another highlight is the incubation program focusing on the next generation of talent. GEYSER PARCO and PORT PARCO, curated sales areas aimed at nurturing brands, will operate pop-up shops to support fresh designers active in Tokyo, such as Nobuyuki Matsui and Tenderperson. They will also propose sustainability in fashion, with environmentally friendly water-washing dry cleaning, repairs by clothing experts, and discerning buy-back stores.

PARCO MUSEUM TOKYO
In addition to the opening of PARCO MUSEUM TOKYO, which disseminates culture to the world, the relocation and reopening of GALLERY X, a gallery on Spain Hill in Shibuya, is also generating buzz. Furthermore, the zone promoting Japanese culture will bring together Japan's leading content holders such as "Nintendo TOKYO" and "Pokémon Center Shibuya," creating a floor that goes beyond merchandise sales and allows visitors to experience the world of the show with all five senses.

The PARCO Theater, the hub of PARCO culture, has been expanded and upgraded, with approximately 1.5 times the seating capacity of the previous theater. The company-operated mini-theater "CINE QUINT" has also been added, and Kichijoji's street-level music cafe and bar "QUATTRO LABO" will relocate and reopen.

"CHAOS KITCHEN," based on the concept of "food, music, and culture," will be located on the basement floor, the main restaurant floor. A truly chaotic "jumble" food and drink zone will be developed here, with a wide variety of restaurants, from new Michelin-starred restaurants, udon shops, coffee shops, wild game and insect dishes, and even a mixed bar, as well as record shops and merchandise stores. Also, with overseas tourists in mind, a restaurant zone will be created with an array of Japanese restaurants, including conveyor belt sushi, tempura, yakiniku, and ramen, as well as vegan restaurants. Furthermore, on the ground floor, there will be a sake and beer stand, a food gallery, and a wine bar that will appear periodically, run by a flower shop, all of which can be enjoyed as you stroll around the city.

Proposing a new way of shopping in the digital age, we have developed "CUBE," an omni-channel sales floor that combines in-store sales and e-commerce. As a NEXT store with enhanced showroom functionality, it will stock strategic items and limited-edition merchandise, with other products sold on the PARCO online store under digital inventory management. We will create a system that allows customers to purchase products not available in stores online at any time, allowing for stress-free shopping. We will also introduce a cafe and showroom-style shop that will bring technology closer to people. Japan's first crowdfunded AI showroom will offer new experiences, such as allowing customers to try out products and ideas before they are released to the public.

Focusing on Shibuya's distinctive "slope" and "streets," we created a multi-level corridor that spirals from Spanish Slope around the building's perimeter to the 10th floor, blending the building seamlessly with the surrounding neighborhood. The multi-level street has separate entrances on each floor, creating a space where customers can enjoy shopping just like walking through the streets of Shibuya. It was located between the old Shibuya Parco Part I and Part III. The road has been reborn as Nakashibu Street, a pedestrian-only passageway, lined with 10 street-level stores.
