Laforet Harajuku's basement restroom, which doubles as both a restroom and an art gallery and exhibits artworks on a rotating basis, is exhibiting works by artist and model Colliu starting June 7th.

In order to give the Laforet Harajuku feel, even the restrooms are being renovated to become "places for new expression that go beyond mere restroom functionality." The men's and women's restrooms on the basement floor, which reopened in October 2018, were designed by art director Niki Naruo, and exhibit works based on the concept of "opening a window to art and culture in the restrooms of Laforet Harajuku."
Now in his second exhibition, Colliu presents his unique world through a variety of techniques, including drawings, paintings, and three-dimensional works, centered around human-shaped motifs with distinctive eyes. This time, his work is titled "Prospect-Refuge." Based on the concept of two human desires: "the desire to seek opportunities and have a view," and "the desire to hide away for safety," visitors can experience both a "view" and a "hideaway" by looking out at the view that continues into the depths from the hideaway location of the "underground toilets of Laforet Harajuku."

Colli commented, "Since this is an opportunity to exhibit my work in the interesting space of Gallery Toilet, I wanted to create a presentation that would allow people to feel a connection between the space and the work, so I attempted to create a mysterious piece with depth, in which the window-shaped base and mirror resonate and continue together. I hope you enjoy the mysterious world that unfolds at the back of the toilet."

Naruo also explained the reason for choosing Colliu for this exhibition, saying, "I thought that Colliu's graphical style would match the white gallery toilets. Also, Colliu's works, which are pop and cute, yet also have an inorganic and mysterious image, have a somewhat unisex impression, so I was personally interested to see what kind of images Colliu would expand on and create works in a space like a toilet, which is used by a wide range of men and women, and so I proposed him as the artist for the second installment of the exhibition."
