IZANAGI April 2015 Issue
This is the first exhibition in Japan by a hair and makeup artist.
Kera has expanded his range of expression by applying the hair and makeup techniques and sensibilities he has cultivated through advertising and fashion shows such as the Paris Collection to collaborations with contemporary art. Keira's work, which transcends conventional notions of hair and makeup and is a collaborative effort with artists from a variety of fields, has been recognized by the Museum of Modern Art, Saitama, and is now being held as an exhibition.

Keira has supported the expression of numerous brands through hair and makeup backstage at fashion shows such as Paris Collection and Tokyo Collection, as well as for seasonal looks and catalogs.
The exhibition will present a full overview of his creative endeavors, from his previous advertising work to diverse collaborations that go beyond the boundaries of hair and makeup. The highlight of the exhibition will also be a large-scale new video installation created in collaboration with fashion designer Mikio Sakabe.

In "FACE," a new video installation created in collaboration with Mikio Sakabe for this exhibition, Keira was in charge of hair and makeup, and Sakabe was in charge of costume styling. The installation uses approximately 40 displays to show how "the power of hair and makeup can transform a single woman's face into a variety of feminine images." It is an attempt to demonstrate the power and possibilities of hair and makeup through free creativity and outstanding technique. There will also be a section showcasing his work with five brands from among the many domestic and international brands that Keira has been involved with - ANREALAGE, SOMARTA, MIKIO SAKABE, writtenafterwards and LIMI feu - along with wigs, headpieces and production materials. These will provide a glimpse into current fashion from the perspective of hair and makeup.

Kera's work is not limited to fashion; he has also done hair and makeup for the first time in a work by Yasumasa Morimura, created heads for Bunraku puppets and provided them for puppeteer Kanryoku's performances, and collaborated with flower arranger and photographer Joichi Teshigawara on a project. This makes this a rare opportunity to see all of Keira's creations in one place. Keira is constantly reinventing the concept of hair and makeup by collaborating with creators from a variety of genres, not just fashion.
