Eslite Spectrum is a Taiwanese cultural information hub that started as a bookstore based on the concept of "Books, and Everything in Between," and has grown by focusing on creating a space that fosters reading and cultural exchange. The first Japanese branch of the store, Eslite Spectrum Nihonbashi, which has been selected as one of the "14 Coolest Department Stores in the World" and "Asia's Best Bookstore," is based on the concept of a "cultural wonderland of life and reading," and will compile the culture that has been passed down through the history and daily lives of Nihonbashi with Eslite Spectrum's unique sensibility, becoming a platform for disseminating creative and diverse cultural information.
The space, designed by leading Taiwanese architect Kris Yao based on the concepts of "intersecting the past and present" and "fusion of the old and the new," is made up of four zones: Eslite Bookstore (Book Zone), Stationery Zone, Select Merchandise & Workshop Zone, and Restaurant & Food Zone. In addition to a selection of books unique to Eslite, the store will also carry products from nearly 100 brands. Of the 50 Taiwanese brands, five will be making their Japanese debut. The Select Merchandise & Workshop Zone will include DAYLILY, a Taiwanese herbal lifestyle brand for women; Guo Yuanyi, a long-established Chinese confectionery brand that has been around since the Qing dynasty and offers modern sweets created in collaboration with designers in addition to classic products such as pineapple cakes; and P. Seven Tea Perfume, the first perfume brand made from Taiwanese tea and committed to being "Made in Taiwan." The Restaurant and Food Zone will feature the first Japanese location of Fujin Tree, a Taiwanese restaurant run by a popular fashion and lifestyle brand from Taipei's fashionable Fujin Street. Also opening in Japan will be Wang Dechuan, a long-established Taiwanese tea shop founded in 1862 that offers a selection of carefully selected Taiwanese oolong teas produced in specialized tea fields. Eslite Spectrum's greatest feature is its experiential events, which regularly feature a wide variety of content, including talk sessions with cultural figures, music events, art exhibitions, and cooking demonstrations. The glassblowing workshop equipped with a full-scale kiln, which is currently available at the Eslite Spectrum Songyan (Songyama) store, will also be recreated at Eslite Spectrum Nihonbashi.
Approximately 50 Taiwanese brands, including five making their Japanese debut, as well as sophisticated items, food, and workshops selected from Japan and around the world, will breathe a breath of fresh air into the Nihonbashi area.
