This year marks the 100th anniversary of the Bauhaus, a comprehensive arts school. The school aimed to innovate through its unique format of interdisciplinary education amid the currents of modern design. Founded in Weimar, Germany in 1919, it closed in 1933. Despite its short lifespan of just 14 years, why does it continue to have such a powerful influence not only in Germany but around the world?
This exhibition features the Bauhaus as part of ATELIER MUJI GINZA's "Archives" series, an effort to preserve and utilize important design records and pass them on to future generations. The gallery displays experimental photography and lighting fixtures by Marianne Brandt, considered one of the most talented Bauhaus students, as well as works by Wilhelm Wagenfeld, alongside MUJI products selected in line with the theme.
What has the Bauhaus given us over the past century, and what will it bring to the future? We invite you to delve into these insights through the archives.
In keeping with the Bauhaus's role as an experimental educational institution, various events, including talks and workshops, will be held during the exhibition, spanning a wide range of genres, including architecture, design, education, art, and food. Be sure to check them out!
