"X・Y," a solo exhibition by artist duo magma, consisting of Jun Sugiyama and Kenichi Miyazawa, will be held at VOILLD art gallery in Nakameguro, Tokyo, from April 13th to May 19th.
This exhibition marks the fourth exhibition of new works by the artists and their first in about two years since "STOP THE TIME," held at VOILLD in 2017. The exhibition features new works themed around "imaginary games." The works resemble board game pieces and seem to appeal to the mysterious rules. As we are often at the mercy of our interest in the unknown, they seem to question rules, their meaning, and their necessity.

Magma continues to create a wide variety of works, working on a wide range of projects from advertising art to spatial design, furniture, and products, using everyday materials such as resin, scrap wood, electrical appliances, and wood. To date, they have produced music videos and stage sets for Yuzu, as well as music videos for Kaela Kimura, Sakanaction, and Kyary Pamyu Pamyu, and have also created sets for the NHK music program "Music Japan." In 2017, they celebrated their 10th anniversary with a large-scale solo exhibition at Laforet Museum Harajuku.
