The media art event "Kobe Music & Digital Art Exhibition" will be held for three days from January 27th to 29th at the former Sumitomo Warehouse, a historic building in Kobe's Shinko Port that is scheduled for demolition within 2023.

The warehouse is a unique structure consisting of two buildings of different eras, separated by a large atrium. The five-story western section was completed in 1926 (Taisho 15) in response to the growing demand for warehouses in Kobe following the destruction of warehouses in Yokohama in the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923. The four-story eastern section was then completed in 1962. A railway siding, a remnant of freight transport, still runs within the warehouse, and parts of the platform and rails remain within the premises. Along with the Chikko Red Brick Warehouse that remains in Osaka Port, this building is one of the most iconic examples of Sumitomo Warehouse's history. It will close in March 2021, ownership will be transferred to Kobe City, and it is scheduled to be demolished by the end of the year for redevelopment.

This event is being held in cooperation with Kobe Electronics College, and different themed sets are being planned for each of the three days, featuring light and sound effects using lasers, lighting, and a special sound system.

On the first day, the 27th, "SOW078" will bring together organizers and DJs pioneering a new music scene. From the port city's cutting-edge district, it will sow seeds for the future, conveying the current state of Kobe.

On the 28th, under the title "1970-2023 from DISCOTEQUE to CLUB, Time Trip Kobe," epoch-making music from the 1970s to the present will be recreated. The line-up of DJs to liven up the party will include DJs active since the disco era of the 70s and 80s, such as DJ YOKU of A HUNDRED BIRDS, DJ Marbow, and DJ TANKO, as well as world champion turntablists, directors and producers working behind the scenes in the fashion scene.

On the 29th, "078KOBE" and "BLISSDOM," movements envisioning a futuristic city, will present a sound design that refines the granularity and clarity of sound, linking it to the expansiveness of light. Special programs include a showcase by SUDO, the world-renowned DJ/producer duo Isao Sudo and Takashi Sudo from Kobe; a spatial presentation by Tomoyuki Soramoto featuring floating laser-drawn objects and programmable LED lights; and an eight-minute showcase featuring ballet dancer Chihiro's improvised, organic dance.

For three days, 13 local restaurants will set up booths in the plaza south of the warehouse, including Kobe's signature charcoal-grilled steaks, soups from a popular delicatessen, mulled wine, and Nadagogo Sake Brewery.
The performers are as follows:
