The Givenchy Fall/Winter 2023 Collection reevaluated menswear archetypes through the lens of modern masculinity. Artistic Director Matthew M. Williams noticed an instinctive evolution of sartorial virtues in the art-forward community around him that was reflected in his own relationship with clothing. It was an understanding of menswear's traditional values, fueled by a desire to adapt them to modern thinking. It represents a clothing culture of individuality, formality, ease and confidence.

The reflection on individuality is evident in the practical and proverbial bespoke research. Archetypes are deconstructed and reconstructed as suggestions for the wearer's multifaceted personality. This is also reflected in the soundtrack composed and recorded for the show by British indie rock musician Bakar.

Presented inside an optical white box, the collection highlights the technical and artisanal approach taken to crafting the clothes and accessories, highlighting the extreme cuts, intricate fabric treatments and intricate surface decorations that underpin this process.

The customization of the dress code is reflected in the tailoring, including four black suits made in the haute couture ateliers. Techniques that evoke a study in volume, as opposed to the traditional tucked-in style, are employed in layered looks to maximize the effect of the idea.

Delicate jerseys are layered tightly over cropped sweatshirts and baggy sportswear for an elegant silhouette. The collection features a wealth of American patterns and colors, including check, camouflage, flame, denim, bleached canvas, gray marl, neon, and teenage pastels.

Workwear is deconstructed by unravelling classic shapes. Ripped cargo pants are transformed into a skirt layered over sweatpants, a tartan kilt is revisited, and a boiler suit is left unfinished. This look evokes founder Hubert de Givenchy's 1960s style of wearing a jumper wrapped around jeans like a skirt, further inspiring ideas of how to dress and incorporate gestures into self-expression. Additionally, deconstructed sweatshirts, with their sleeves removed, were worn hanging around the waist, creating the all-sweatsuit, a transgenerational evening silhouette that paved the way for a new era of formal wear.

The show was attended by many guests from around the world, including SOL, who has been appointed global ambassador, rapper Tyga, and model Shanina Shaikh. Snow Man's Raul also attended from Japan, enjoying his first-ever front row seat at the show. He thrilled the crowd by wearing a knit sweatshirt from the Spring/Summer 2023 Men's Collection, as well as his signature men's accessories: a G-chain necklace, GIV-cut sunglasses, and TK-MX sneakers.
