Saucedo Dressing: A flower shop like a botanical garden in the heart of Ebisu

May 5, 2015

SORCERY DRESSING, a flower shop that just opened last March, is located in a three-story building along Komazawa-dori Street, a one-minute walk from the west exit of Ebisu Station. Greeted by lavender and roses, customers enter the store to find cut flowers lined up on the walls. "We often change the order in which the flowers are displayed and the shape of the aisle from the entrance to ensure that customers can always enjoy freshness. We display the flowers so that customers can touch them, so that they can enjoy the shape and fragrance of each individual flower while making their selection. We also kept our prices low, as we wanted to dispel the image that flowers are expensive," explains CEO Hiroyuki Mori. SORCERY DRESSING's theme is a natural look that brings out the best in plants. It attracts a wide range of customers, including many males. On the second floor, a crammed display of potted plants creates a relaxing atmosphere. "Rather than flowers you can only buy at a florist, I base my shop on natural, natural-looking flowers and add bold blooms. I'm sometimes drawn to roadside flowers that might not even be suitable for sale. I hope customers can experience the inherent beauty and vitality of these plants," says Mori. Mori values the Japanese sense of seasons and doesn't mix flowers that don't bloom in the same season. While selective breeding has become mainstream these days, Mori offers roses that allow you to appreciate the unique character of each variety, such as old-rose shrub roses, which offer unique fragrances. The reason for locating the shop in front of a busy station is that "we wanted to open a store in a neighborhood where we could disseminate information." This busy location, rather than a back alley, was chosen because Mori wanted to create a shop that would allow people outside of flower lovers to discover the charm of flowers. The shop's name, SORCERY, means "magic." "I want to create something that is exciting by incorporating human hands into nature, and I incorporated the meaning of magic into it. I want to provide something that makes people say, 'Oh, I didn't know that was how it was,' rather than just what they would expect," says Mori.

Recommended for this season is an arrangement that combines the naturalness and splendor of flowers that live in the sunlight. Large white dahlias, purple calla lilies, and pale purple roses create a world of chic colors. We hope you will enjoy the magic of plants and flowers at SORCERY DRESSING.
