Swiss luxury watch brand TAG Heuer is pleased to announce the TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph 60th Anniversary Edition. Limited to just 600 pieces, this model features a "panda" dial, kicking off the 60th anniversary of Jack Heuer's timeless Carrera.

Launched in 1963, the Carrera has defined the wristwatch chronograph genre for 60 years, and is now recognized worldwide for its classic, elegant design, highly legible dial, and reliable technology. The Carrera has been loved by motorsport legends and silver screen stars, from James Hunt in the 1960s and Mick Jagger in the 1970s to Ryan Gosling today. The Carrera is an icon among icons.

THE WAY FORWARD: The Spirit of the Carrera Panamericana Lives On
The Carrera story has become legendary. When Jack Heuer met the Rodriguez brothers at the 12 Hours of Sebring in 1962, he learned about the Carrera Panamericana, a dangerous road race held in Mexico for a short time, and was inspired to use the name for a chronograph.

Jack's Carrera, released in 1963, embodied the speed and adventurous spirit of the race, which was held for five years from 1950 to 1954. This model also expressed the aspirations of a younger generation of ambitious and highly motivated individuals. Its round case, easy-to-read design, and simple design were the envy of cool, ambitious, and highly motivated young people. Sixty years later, that spirit lives on, and Jack's legacy will shine forever.

SEEING IT BOTH WAYS: A Legacy of Dial Design
In preparation for the year-long celebration of the Carrera's 60th anniversary, TAG Heuer's design and engineering teams chose to return to one of the most collectible vintage Carreras, model 2447SN, introduced in the late 1960s.
First-generation Carrera models featured manual-winding Valjoux chronograph movements and came in a variety of designs, including silver or black dials with peripheral graduations. A second series was added to the lineup in the late 1960s, featuring either a silver dial with black subdials or a black dial with silver subdials, known as the "Panda" and "Reverse Panda," respectively.

The 2447SN, with its silver dial and black subdials, is a "Panda" designation, true to its naming convention. The "SN" is a blend of the English and French words for "silver" and "noir," meaning silver and black, respectively, making for an intriguing name. As always, the design language of this jack emphasizes legibility. The Carrera's vision was to function as a racing instrument, easily recording lap times, and the high-contrast dial aimed for exceptional readability without distraction.
Building on the success of the earlier Carrera, the 2447SN adds subtle design elements to further enhance its instant legibility. These include central stripes on the hour markers and hour and minute hands for clearer legibility, a double stop at 12 o'clock that is clearly visible when the chronograph reaches zero, and more prominent black counters with white hands and indices. The Carrera 2447SN was a masterpiece of understated yet highly functional design.

WILD TIMES: Panda Returns
In anticipation of the Carrera's 60th anniversary, the TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph 60th Anniversary Edition is being launched. Limited to 600 pieces worldwide, this faithful reinterpretation of the Carrera 2447SN.

The color scheme remains the same from the vintage to the new model, with black stripes on the center hands and hour markers, a double stop at 12 o'clock, and high-contrast white indices against black counters. The silver sunray-finish dial also features the vintage "Heuer" logo in its original location, with the "Carrera" name placed above it. The counter at 6 o'clock also features the word "Swiss," signifying the watch's Swiss-made status. The 60-minute and 12-hour counters are reversed, and the original watch's "T," representing radioactive tritium, is no longer on the dial; instead, the new model features modern Super-LumiNova®.

The dial is surrounded by a 39 mm polished stainless steel case topped by a raised sapphire "glass box," vintage pushers, beige luminescent material, and a slim tension ring around the outer edge of the dial, all of which contribute to a retro feel.

Turn the TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph 60th Anniversary Edition over and its modern classification becomes even clearer. The sapphire crystal case back reveals TAG Heuer's in-house automatic chronograph movement, the Heuer 02, boasting an approximately 80-hour power reserve. The Heuer 02's Geneva stripes, the column wheel that ensures the chronograph's precise operation, and the exclusive rotor for the TAG Heuer Carrera 60th Anniversary Edition are also a delight to the eye.

The case back is engraved with the watch's serial number, XXX/600, and the 100-meter (10 bar) water resistance rating. The watch is presented on a black perforated calfskin racing strap with a pin buckle.

The TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph 60th Anniversary Edition is the first in a series celebrating the Carrera's 60th anniversary. Its connection to the 2447SN model from the late 1960s ensures that this watch will forever be a special treasure for true Heuer enthusiasts and collectors.
