Caliber 9S Mechanical Movement
Caliber 9S was born in 1998 as a high-precision mechanical movement based on the "New Grand Seiko Standard." Since then, it has continued to evolve in many aspects, such as accuracy, duration, parts manufacturing, and assembly and adjustment skills, by combining cutting-edge technology and master craftsmanship, culminating in the revolutionary Caliber 9SA5 in 2020.

A 25th Anniversary Limited Edition Model Embodying "THE NATURE OF TIME"
In 1998, the "SBGR001," the first model to feature the highly accurate mechanical movement, "Caliber 9S," defined Grand Seiko's tradition and innovation. It was designed by Nobuhiro Kosugi, the first watch designer to be selected as a Contemporary Master Craftsman and recipient of the Yellow Ribbon Medal. Aiming to create a timepiece that would be loved for a long time, the watch pursued the essential qualities of a watch: comfort, operability, and legibility. The exterior is polished with "Zaratsu polishing," resulting in a high-quality design achieved through craftsmanship. This model, embodying the "best basics" of timeless beauty, continues to influence many designs today as a core design of the Grand Seiko Heritage Collection.
It has been 25 years since the development of Caliber 9S. Based on Grand Seiko's philosophy of further evolution and innovation, this special limited edition model is roughly the same size as the SBGR001 and is inspired by the majestic scenery of Mount Iwate, embodying "THE NATURE OF TIME."

"THE NATURE OF TIME"
Grand Seiko's brand philosophy, "THE NATURE OF TIME," expresses two aspects of the Japanese spirituality: the sensibility inspired by nature and the changing seasons, and the artisans who strive to master their respective paths and approach the essence of time.

≪Product Features≫
A model equipped with Caliber 9S85 that expresses the majestic scene of Mt. Iwate enveloped in a sea of clouds

This model, equipped with Caliber 9S85, uses its dial and oscillating weight to depict the vast scene of the sea of clouds that spreads over Mt. Iwate, located close to Grand Seiko Studio Shizukuishi, the manufacturing site of Grand Seiko mechanical watches.

The organic pattern on the silver-colored dial represents the layered "sea of clouds" that envelops Mount Iwate at dawn. The watch's appearance sparkles in a variety of ways depending on how the light hits it.

Assembled by the skilled techniques of skilled artisans, the 10-beat high-beat mechanical movement, Caliber 9S85, features a Grand Seiko lion emblem on the oscillating weight, a feature unique to the 25th anniversary commemorative model. The titanium oscillating weight is given a refreshing sky blue color using a special anodizing process newly developed for this model, representing the clear blue sky spreading out above a sea of clouds.

A model equipped with Caliber 9S65 that depicts the view of Mount Iwate as seen from its summit

This model, equipped with Caliber 9S65, also features a sky blue dial that depicts the view of Mount Iwate as seen from its summit, located close to Grand Seiko Studio Shizukuishi, where mechanical movements are produced.

The sky-blue dial, reminiscent of the endless expanse of the sky, reflects light, complementing the sparkle of the diamond-cut hands and abbreviations, creating a beautiful sheen that is a delight to the eye. The tempered blue seconds hand quietly ticks away, creating a beautiful harmony and rhythm within the dial.

The "Caliber 9S65" mechanical movement, which has a power reserve of approximately three days when fully wound, features a Grand Seiko lion emblem on the oscillating weight and the brand's iconic Grand Seiko blue, anodized to create a unique 25th anniversary edition.

Since its founding in 1960, Grand Seiko has striven to create the finest wristwatches, continuously pursuing and realizing the essential qualities of a watch—accuracy, beauty, and legibility—at a high level, and has made tireless progress. Since launching globally in 2010, Grand Seiko has earned worldwide acclaim for its top-level performance and sophisticated design, which only a rare true manufacturer in the world can achieve.
