Music streaming service Spotify has announced its "Early Noise 2019" list of 10 up-and-coming Japanese artists expected to make a big leap this year.

Launched in Japan in 2017, "Early Noise" is a program in which Spotify announces its top upcoming artists at the beginning of the year and introduces them to discerning music fans through a playlist of the same name. The program also regularly hosts "Spotify Early Noise Night," a showcase live event where listeners can experience the performances of artists they discovered on the playlist. Artists such as Aimyon, Vickeblanka, Taichi Mukai, and CHAI have all gained listeners both domestically and internationally through "Early Noise," moving on to the next stage of their careers. The ten artists selected for this year's "Early Noise 2019" awards include 15-year-old singer Emma Wahlin, who is expected to become the next global diva; Ghost like girlfriend, a solo project by Awaji Island native Takekatsu Okabayashi; new-generation creator Mega Shinnosuke; Kyoto-born musician Kaho Nakamura; Yo-Sea, a singer-rapper affiliated with the Okinawa-born crew "SOUTH CAT"; Zutto Mayonaka de Iinoni, whose debut music video, "Boku no Seken wo Kamu" (Betsu no Kanata), surpassed 10 million views in just a few months; King Gnu, a band formed by Tokyo University of the Arts graduate and creator Daiki Tsuneta, who is developing his own unique activities; Kiiro Akiyama, a vocational school dropout and part-time worker who writes lyrics, composes music, arranges, creates videos, and creates illustrations; SASUKE, a 15-year-old up-and-coming trackmaker; and the Kyoto-based sister unit kitri.
To coincide with the announcement of "Early Noise 2019," Spotify will also release a playlist called "Early Noise 2019" that compiles their songs, and will release a playlist covering each of the 10 artists in turn until the end of February. The 10 artists selected this time will be actively introduced to music fans both in Japan and abroad in various ways throughout the year.
