There's no fashion without recycling and sustainability [Pitti Uomo 95]

Jan 31, 2019
The 95th Pitti Immagine Uomo, a comprehensive men's fashion exhibition for Fall/Winter 2019-20, was held in Florence, Italy, for four days from January 8th.
The tram service, which opened last July, now runs in front of the Fortezza da Basso, where the exhibition is held, improving traffic and creating a different entrance scene than before. Approximately 1,230 brands (542 of which are from outside Italy), mainly luxury men's brands, from around the world exhibited at the world's largest men's fashion exhibition, attracting 23,800 buyers and approximately 2,700 media representatives during the event.

The theme this year was "Pitti Box." In the plaza in front of the central pavilion, a talking box was set up where industry influencers and media people regularly hold talk shows. The venue was designed around the concept of a new world formed by the inside and outside of various "boxes" through streaming broadcasts. In a departure from previous pop themes, text and conversation were now at the center of the venue's layout, giving the impression that the area around the central plaza is undergoing a transition from its traditional festival atmosphere to one that is more like a conference.

The peak of cosplayers visiting the fair for fashion snaps, which has been a big draw for the past few years, has passed, and signs of the fair returning to its original purpose as a comprehensive exhibition are evident at the exhibitors' booths. Behind this is a decline in the number of Italian buyers due to the worsening Italian economy (visitor numbers this time were down 8% from the previous time), as well as sluggish global consumption at large men's fashion chains. According to Raffaello Napoleone, CEO of Pitti Immagine Uomo, "Rather than waiting for the crisis or bad times to pass, we have decided to take action to achieve the best results."
