An exhibition exploring the work of Yoichi Ochiai as a photographer, "Longing for Mass: Perspectives on Pre-Computer Nature"

Event Date:2019.01.24-02.06
Dec 20, 2018
Media artist Yoichi Ochiai's exhibition "Longing for Mass: Perspectives on Pre-Computer Nature" will be held at Amana Square in Tokyo's Tennozu Isle district from January 24 to February 6, 2019.

Yoichi Ochiai has garnered attention both in Japan and abroad, including receiving the Ars Electronica Prize, a global media art award. In his range of work, including media art, he continues to explore the expressive possibilities that lie between "image-based expression" and "material expression."

Yoichi Ochiai's irreversible moments and perspectives, as well as the collective landscapes they capture, transcend words and are expressed digitally, offering viewers a unique aesthetic sensibility. "Longing for Mass - Perspectives on Pre-Computer Nature" focuses on Ochiai Yoichi as a "photographer," showcasing approximately 20 photographic series, including works shot specifically for this exhibition, as well as installation works.

Through works created with a focus on the texture and materiality that lie between Ochiai Yoichi's words, visuals, and media art expressions, the exhibition explores the extent to which two-dimensional methods of expression can stimulate people's sensibilities and the very foundations of aesthetic sensibility.
