What was the most-streamed music on Spotify in 2018? Drake, Ariana Grande, etc.: Worldwide ranking

Dec 14, 2018

Spotify, the music streaming service used by 191 million users worldwide, has released its rankings looking back on the music scene in 2018.

Drake was named the most-streamed artist in the world. His album "Scorpion," released in 2018, and the track "God's Plan," from his EP "Scary Hours," released in January 2018, took the top spot in both the most-streamed albums and most-streamed songs categories. "God's Plan" recorded over 100 million streams within a week of its release, making him only the second artist to achieve this feat in history, following Bauer's "Harlem Shake" in 2013. Drake also garnered 8.2 billion streams this year alone, making him Spotify's most-streamed artist of all time. Post Malone ranked second among the most-streamed artists worldwide. His album "Beerbongs & Bentleys," released in April 2018, also ranked second in the list of most-streamed albums worldwide, with the album's tracks "rockstar (feat. 21 Savage)" and "Psycho (feat. Ty Dolla $ign)" coming in third and fourth in the most-streamed songs list. Other artists ranked among the most-streamed artists worldwide include young artists who were active in 2018, such as Khalid (9th) and Shawn Mendes (23rd), as well as Latin artists such as J. Balvin (4th), Ozuna (7th), and Bad Bunny (8th).

The most streamed female artist in the world is Ariana Grande, whose latest album, "Sweetener," released in August 2018, and her single, "thank u, next," released in November, are both doing well. Her biggest hit, "thank u, next," has surpassed 210 million views. The music video, released on YouTube, garnered over 50 million views in the 24 hours since its release, setting a new record for the most daily video views of any video. Coming in second place is Dua Lipa, who, following hits like "One Kiss" and "Electricity," enjoyed explosive success with her collaboration with BLACKPINK, "Kiss and Make Up."

In addition, this year BTS (Bangtan Boys) became the first K-pop artist to rank in the world's most listened-to group rankings. Their song "FAKE LOVE," released worldwide in October 2018, is also the most played K-pop song in the world.
