On November 16th, GLIM SPANKY held a listening party for their new album, "LOOKING FOR THE MAGIC," at the Spotify Japan office.
This event was an advance listening session where 20 Spotify users, selected by lottery from those who "pre-saved" the new album on Spotify, spoke with viewers of a live Instagram broadcast. This report covers the event, which used the streaming industry's first "pre-save" feature.

In response to the MC's question, "It's rare to have an event this close, isn't it?", Remi Matsuo (Vocals & Guitarist) responded, "I'm happy. It has a live house feel, which is great." The event then began with an explanation of Spotify's "Pre-save" feature, a first for the streaming industry.
This feature allows you to pre-save an album before its release, and it is automatically saved to your "MY MUSIC" account on the day of release. This feature allows you to pre-save an album as soon as it's announced by the artist, similar to how you would pre-order a CD, so you can listen to new releases without missing a beat.
For the fans who used this feature to gather, Remi Matsuo performed the lead track "TV Show" from his new album. "Performing as a duo is a more vivid experience, and I think it brings to light things that aren't usually visible, in a good way, so I'd like to perform a special version today," he commented, and performed a rare two-person version.

The early listening session began with a performance of the album's first track, "4 Dimensional Regarding "Desert," she revealed, "Around the end of summer, Kamemoto Hiroki (guitar) came to me and said, 'I've come up with a great riff.' At first, I wanted to include vocals, but if I did, it would just end up sounding like a regular song, so I tried various things to include vocals that didn't sound like vocals. I made a sound that made the guitar stand out more than the vocals, and created a song that inspires the imagination, where you can't tell what dimension it comes from." Following that, Kamemoto Hiroki (guitar) also commented on the song, saying, "I wrote this song hoping to have a cool sound effect when we perform at FUJI ROCK this year and take to the big stage to express our unique worldview." The album's tracks were then played one by one, with commentary from the members themselves, creating a luxurious experience of listening to all the songs.
Previously, pre-listening methods typically involved radio broadcasts or pre-listening parties, but this time, they've introduced a pre-listening method using a streaming service, allowing users to experience the latest album early.
Spotify's Pre-save feature also allows users to share their pre-save on social media like Twitter after completion, making it more likely to spread and reach more people. Furthermore, at the listening party, everyone who pre-saved a song received an original wallpaper of "LOOKING FOR THE MAGIC," photographed in LA, and we can expect to see more variations in these types of projects. It's one to watch for in the future as a music promotion method. At the end of the event, the band announced their nationwide tour "LOOKING FOR THE MAGIC Tour 2019," which will run from March to June 2019, and they also took commemorative photos with the 20 fans, making it an unforgettable event for the fans.
