Event Date:2018.11.21-12.10
Nov 16, 2018
An exhibition of original illustrations from the much-talked-about book "One Hundred Heads in a Thousand Years," a collaboration between artist Kiyokawa Asami and poet Saihate Tahi on the theme of "One Hundred Heads in a Thousand Years," will be held at the Kenninji Temple mountain in Kyoto's Ryosokuin Temple from November 21st to December 10th.

In her book "One Hundred Heads in a Thousand Years" (published by Little More), Kiyokawa uses thread, cloth, and beads to create an emotionally charged portrayal of the waka poem "One Hundred Heads in a Thousand Years" in a contemporary context. The original artwork will be on display for the first time at Ryosokuin Temple. Experience the evocative, modern world of "Hyakunin Isku" amid the splendor and tranquility of autumn foliage in Kyoto. The artwork will also be exhibited at Grand Marble Gion and Cafe & Champagne Gion Chikara. Asami Kiyokawa commented, "When I first visited Kenninji Temple and Ryosokuin Temple in Kyoto, the buildings and gardens were so beautiful, and I imagined my artworks lined up in the space. It's a relaxing time to be freed from the distractions of everyday life, simply focus on your physical condition, and listen. I envision a space where time flows quietly, as if you could hear songs from a thousand years ago. I hope that visitors can experience the world of "Hyakunin Isku in the Thousand Years" in the autumn at Ryosokuin Temple, experience the autumn leaves and scents of the garden, and feel the presence of the poets, while experiencing the feeling of living in this era."

In addition, to coincide with the exhibition, "Kiyokawa Asami: Hyakunin Isshu Karuta" and Saihate Tahi's essay collection "The Feelings of Hyakunin Isshu" (both published by Little More) will be published on November 24th. They will be available for pre-sale at the venue.
