Jenny Fax Show Featuring Lotta Volkova [Women's Spring/Summer 2019]

Oct 30, 2018

JENNYFAX, designed by Xue Zhenfan, presented its Spring/Summer 2019 collection on October 20th at Shibuya Hikarie Hall A. The show's stylist, Lotta Volkova, also drew much attention. Lotta is a top stylist who has worked with Balenciaga and Vetements. It all began when she visited a Jenny Fax exhibition and personally asked Zhenfan if she could style the show. Expanding on the previous collection, which was themed around mothers, this season's collection is inspired by rural Americana, towns, mothers, and overweight women, reminiscent of horror movies. The collection featured super-oversized pieces, evocative of the avant-garde of the 1980s, such as Vivienne Westwood. Jackets, dresses, corsets, and underwear were disassembled and reconstructed like collages, creating a clownish style with oversized silhouettes. Even buttoned-up dresses revealed the belly button, like an overweight woman wearing ill-fitting clothing. Jenny Fax also featured mischievous designs, such as oversized dresses with underwear forced over them, no longer seen in Paris collections. Accessories like four severed fingers resting on a cross are typical of Jenny Fax. Meanwhile, the textiles and patterns evoke images of rural American towns and their inhabitants. The contrasting combination of bold designs and oversized pieces with simple, nostalgic textiles and patterns emphasizes both strength and fear. A personal novel written in avant-garde grammar. The collection is a perfect finale to Tokyo Fashion Week, mixing the designer's thoughts and memories with the trends of the 1980s and the creepy cuteness of Tokyo and Harajuku, known as the capital of street fashion. It is a collection where strength, fear, and cuteness coexist. "The key point is love," says Xue Zhenfan.
