HYKE, the brand created by Hideaki Yoshihara and Yukiko Oide, presented their 2019 Spring/Summer collection at Warehouse Terrada on October 18th. Rather than setting a specific theme, HYKE draws inspiration from fashion history and vintage clothing, reconstructing and designing. This season, they presented a collection inspired by military clothing from the United States, the United Kingdom, and France.
Last year, they won the Mainichi Fashion Grand Prix, further increasing their popularity and attention. This season, instead of a mini-show installation, they presented a full-scale runway show. To meet these expectations, they presented a collection that further evolved and developed their designs while maintaining their signature style, expanding their variety.
This season's inspiration came from American military items from the 1930s and 1940s, such as the US Navy's 1940s salvage parka, 1930s deck pants, 1940s chambray shirts and stripes, and the US Air Force's M-51 field jacket and field pants. Other designs are inspired by materials and details like the British Army's wrap-around coat from the 1940s and French Army motorcycle pants. While continuing to incorporate elements like boleros, python prints, and wrinkled military designs, adding a classic couture touch, the collection expands its inspiration to include America, the UK, and France. Furthermore, the collection emphasizes change by expanding its design variations with striking colors and patterns that are recognizable from afar, such as vibrant reds and blues, stripes, denim with reversed sides—a style reminiscent of surrealism and the avant-garde—and the trendy asymmetrical designs. Furthermore, the third season of the collaboration with The North Face emphasizes newness and contemporary appeal with asymmetrical designs and logo-emblazoned shoes. The exquisite balance and atmosphere of collars and lengths create a clever collection that blends the originality of HYKE's designs, instantly recognizable as a signature, with the spirit and trends of the times. This time, the brand will also launch its first men's line.
