Maison Margiela launches new "Retro Fit" sneakers

Oct 23, 2018
Maison Margiela will launch a new iconic sneaker, "Retro Fit," this fall.

"Retro Fit"

Based on the house code set forth by Creative Director John Galliano, the "Retro Fit" takes its name from "Retrospect" (recollection or recollection). Infused with themes of time and reminiscence, this unisex shoe evokes memories of authentic sneakers.

Elegantly finished to look like they have been aged over time, this item proposes a new concept of "relaxed glamour" for the next generation with a culture-clash sensibility. It comes in two models: the "Retro Fit High-top Sneakers" (140,000 yen) and the "Retro Fit Low-top Sneakers" (120,000 yen). Each model comes in four colors: white, black, red, and silver.

Retro Fit High-top Sneakers, White (¥140,000)

Infusing nostalgic sportswear with lo-fi design and hi-fi techniques, the brand explores a new language for sneakers. In its pursuit of unprecedented volume, the brand blends elements of several iconic sneakers with a form reminiscent of a snowboard boot and combines them with an exaggerated sole. The concept of "décolleté," which refers to the process of stripping a garment down to its core structure, deconstructs the classic sneaker and offers a new interpretation.

Retro Fit Low-top Snekers, Silver (¥120,000)

These shoes feature the house's "anonymous lining" technique, revealing the inner workings of garments and accessories. A section of the upper has been cut away to reveal the lining's sponge. Reflecting the "relaxed glamour" concept introduced in the Fall/Winter 2018 "Défilé" collection, these details evoke memories of sneakers worn by young people at sporting events or clubs.

Available at Maison Margiela stores nationwide and select select shops.
