Nov 14, 2022
Mari Natsuki stars in the SS23 Pre-Collection campaign, photographed by Juergen Teller. Natsuki, who played Yubaba in Spirited Away, finds herself expressing herself in a real-life "yuya"—a traditional Japanese public bathhouse. She joins other filmmakers, including Luca Guadagnino, famed director of Call Me By Your Name and collaborating with Jonathan Anderson on the upcoming 2023 film Challengers; costume designer Sandy Powell; actors Taylor Russell, Chloë Sevigny, and Tang Wei. Artist Roni Horn, whose recent exhibition at the Pola Museum of Art drew attention, and singer Yeri also join the cast, creating a global record of today's creative talent.

The cast poses like living sculptures, playing with pieces from the SS23 Pre-Collection, which mixes sports motifs with oversized, sculptural silhouettes, as well as puzzle and hammock bags from the Monochrome Collection, inspired by Chinese monochromatic porcelain. Juergen Teller's sharp, frank gaze and playful style bring humor to the images, echoing Loewe's multifaceted identity. Further excitement for the season will come from exclusive wallpapers available to official Loewe LINE subscribers, as well as numerous pop-ups, in-store events and new store openings.

SS23 Pre-Collection
Comprised of two collections, both of which have their origins in the world of ceramics. The Monochrome Collection shines a spotlight on traditional Chinese ceramic techniques and the monochrome ceramics of the Ming and Qing dynasties. Renowned for their precision and understated elegance, these ceramics are the result of centuries of trial and error by artisans inspired by the beauty of nature, from ripe fruit to clear skies. The subtle hues of the glazes that color the ceramics are expertly infused into iconic Loewe bags, including the Puzzle, Hammock, Bracelet Pouch, Luna, and Flamenco, powerfully celebrating the beauty of a single color. Images of the ceramics also appear on t-shirts and sweatshirts.

Additionally, a collection inspired by the ceramist Bernard Leach, known as the father of British studio pottery, is also available. Hand-drawn animal and plant motifs come to life on bags, wallets, and clothing. Colorful leather goods and accessories, nature-scented candles, and bags featuring intarsia octopus designs all evoke a warm, holiday vibe.

LOEWE will be exhibiting at this year's ART021 contemporary art fair, showcasing bags from the Monochrome collection alongside new monochrome ceramic works by ceramist Deng Shiping. The brand will also support the establishment of a new monochrome ceramics education program at the Jingdezhen Ceramics Academy, helping to preserve this traditional craft and cultural heritage. Located in Jingdezhen, a porcelain city with a millennium of history, the university is home to China's only interdisciplinary ceramics department.
