From September 5th to 18th, the food floors of the main and new buildings of Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi Main Store will be holding an event titled "Waiting for Tonight's Moon," featuring Japanese and Western sweets, prepared foods, alcohol, and other items related to the moon-watching community.
"Tsukimachiko" is a custom that was popular during the Edo period, in which people would gather to watch the moon on a specific day of the moon's age. While moon-viewing usually takes place on the fifteenth night of the month (this year on September 24th), Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi Main Store is also proposing menus to enjoy the thirteenth night, also known as the chestnut-flowering moon and the bean-flowering moon.
Kiyoken's "Yokohama Mooncake" is characterized by its moist bean paste, an adaptation of the Chinese mooncake to suit Japanese tastes.
