"I want to cherish the joy of being blessed with good fortune," Christian Dior wrote in his memoirs. Monsieur Dior grew up in a mansion facing the sea in Granville, Normandy. The name and symbol of the mansion, "Rhumbes," is a nautical term referring to the wind direction on a 32-point compass rose. As the house once belonged to a shipowner, wind roses, indicating the direction of the wind, were painted throughout the house, backyard, and elsewhere. In 1946, Monsieur Dior spotted a metal star on the street, recognized it as a symbol of good luck, and realized the time had come to found the House of Dior.

Since 2015, Victoire de Castellane has honored Christian Dior's lucky star with the Rose des Vents (French for Wind Rose), a collection inspired by the endless journeys the winds usher in. The double-faced medallion is adorned with semi-precious stones from around the world in Monsieur Dior's favorite colors. The motif, bordered by a gold rice grain that recalls the ropes used by sailors, beautifully embodies the inspiration for the wind, transcending it into jewellery. It is available on both sides: on one side, a gold eight-pointed star set with sparkling diamonds, and on the other, white mother-of-pearl, pink opal, turquoise, lapis lazuli or onyx. "The compass rose directly expresses this wonderful idea of travel, and for me, creating jewellery and art pieces means reaching landmarks on a journey: the wind, other lands, marking the way, the very trajectory of the journey," says the Creative Director of Dior Fine Jewelry.

The journey that Victoire de Castellane dreamed up for the Rose des Vents collection in November 2022 is colorful, with double spiral hoops of yellow gold beads accented with carnelian, lapis lazuli, turquoise, malachite, and more. The three-strand necklace, two-strand bracelet, and earrings, which sparkle with every movement, feature a 16-point compass rose richly adorned with vibrant colored stones, and are sure to lift your spirits.

The new Rose des Vents jewelry will be available at Dior Fine Jewelry boutiques nationwide from November 1st.
