Nike is releasing a new shoe, the Nike Sportswear EXP-X14.

The "EXP" in the shoe's name is an abbreviation of "experiment," which means experiment. This represents how Nike Sportswear designers incorporated running performance characteristics into lifestyle footwear.

The latter part of the name, "X14," was the initial internal codename for the Nike React technology used in the shoe's midsole, which provides comfortable, all-day cushioning. The "N3546" printed on the inside of the shoe references Steve Prefontaine's mile record (3 minutes 54.6 seconds), a nod to Nike's deep history in running.


The design features a translucent upper, a modern take on the Nike Zoom Drive, a running shoe introduced in the late '90s. The exposed TPU plate across the midsole and tapered heel are similar to the Nike Zoom Vaporfly 4% worn by Breaking2 athletes.

The Nike Sportswear EXP-X14 is a lifestyle shoe that looks back on Nike's history and features numbers and designs on translucent material. It will be available on NIKE.COM and at select NIKE retailers from July 5th.
